Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

    2 x £25 on £20k for me
  • 1 x £25 on 21k holding for me.

I'm disappointed to hear that there will be a reduction of
Premium Bond prizes by over 300,000 from June.:(

Personally I would prefer it if they dropped the extra 1 million top
prize and continued to give out more smaller prizes. Then at least there would be a better chance of getting some return.

If my maths is correct, chances of only 1 prize or worse on £20K over 7 months, are about 1 in 34.

Well. I held £20k for 10 years and won one prize of £50.

I honestly thought they didn't have my details stored and it was a mistake, but it wasn't, so I finally gave up and cashed out. That's an awful return isn't it?

Almost forgot, my children were gifted £1000 each 14 years ago and have won nothing.

Has anyone heard of anyone else earning one of the big prizes? Premium Bonds could be a big gimmick for all we know it.

Chance of your result can't be calculated it's that low. As an example the chance of 50 or fewer prizes with your holding is 1 in 960,000.
Assuming 2 children, chance of zero prizes is 1 in 410,000.

This is something that has crossed my mind. I have £30k worth of PBs and it is only £25 here and there I seem to win. Never won any of the large prizes and never seen anyone here come and say - wow I have won £100k or £50k or £1m.

Looking here it is just a sprinkling of £25 prizes.

I am now thinking of taking mine out - but where do you put your dosh when the interest rate is so poor and you have used all the current account allowances you can?

I am sick of low interest rates and subsidising mortgage borrowers.

Strange how interest rates are an all time low yet the rates of credit cards never seem to drop to 5%
