Another month ,another "sorry, you haven't won" message -just wish there was somewhere else to put it -but I've just had Halifax's "generous" roll over offer on my maturing ISA of 1.25% for 2 years:(

I have the current account interest offers going at the moment and a Cash ISA with Kent Reliance paying the same as your Halifax. But mine isn't a bond type.

My Premium Bonds Newly purchased 4 months ago, on the the first 3 months of winning have averaged at 2.8%

That's not bad. and certainly out-performing by miles my partner's holding which is quite a few years old now, and doesn't pay very much. We are going to cash those in and buy some new ones.

Replacing with new numbers will make no difference!
To see if your partner is unexceptionally unlucky, could you say what the holding is and for how many years.

Myth: Only new Bonds win prizes

Each £1 Bond has an equal chance of winning, regardless of when or where it was bought. Over 89% of eligible Bonds have been bought since the year 2000. So even though Premium Bonds have been on sale for over 50 years, this is why newer Bonds seem to win more frequently. When ERNIE randomly generates winners, he doesn’t store any numbers, so there’s no way any Bonds can be left out.

I hear what you are saying, but I just can't seem to help myself:o

And the fact remains that some lucky folk will win it. What would last nights 35.1m winner have thought if he'd taken that advice and not played?

I know, I know.. The odds are pathetic as are the prizes for all wins except 3 and 6 numbers, but for £4 a week why ever not give it a go? The unbelievably lucky people who actually match 6 have to come from somewhere! I just consider it an extra vice, £4 a week added to any cash spent on indulgences such as meals out and nice wine.

It can get ridiculous though, I was behind a lady in a shop just the other day who spent £41 on scratch cards and a couple of lotto tickets. Now that is madness, if you ask me.

Another month of no win on my £2k holding. Not won any for a good couple of years. However, I have all other decent rate accounts filled up so, as remote the chances are, for the sake £30 a year in some crappy, 1.5% account I'm not overly bothered. I see it as £30 staked on premium bond tickets, much less than the lotto albeit less frequently drawn. I don't need £30 so badly that I can't afford to leave the cash in PB's for the chance of a win.

Thereby removing your money from the draw for at least a month and hence reducing his chances of winning.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Another £ 25 x 3 for April, making total of £ 675 in first 3 months (max holding). I think that's running at 1.35% so far.

Slightly better than NS&I Direct savings so I think I'm a bit ahead already.

Anyone know how long beginner's luck lasts?

With absolutely no statistical evidence whatsoever I think that (probably purely by chance) every time I have topped up with a significant number of new bonds I've won a few £25s in a row, sometimes in the same month, whereas when I did nothing for 2 years (with 5k total) I hardly had a prize to speak of.
