One could argue that premium bonds attract people who value discretion rather than advertising it to the world like lottery winners. The most sensible advice is to keep it private due to the amount of grifters, beggars and scammers who are attracted to money like moths to light. Even the national lottery doesn't have that many going public nowadays.

Another fact to consider is that inflation has eroded the real-terms value of £1m, which was once unimaginable wealth but is less life-changing nowadays, although obviously still a pretty handy sum! The PB £1m prizes were launched in 1994 (perhaps to compete with the new startup National Lottery?), and adjusting for inflation, the top prize has less than half of that buying power now…

Its not funny at all, I think the vast majority of people would want to keep it quiet.

Even posting on an anonymous forum, whats the point? No one woukd believe you anyway.

A poll would be interesting actually.

Rest assured however if I ever win the £1m I will be sure to post it here in the winners thread.

Massive thank you to those on the long since defunct Matched Betting board.

I haven't, and wouldn't. I wouldn't tell family or friends, either, it would be a secret between me and the other half.

I would post on here under an alias but wouldn't tell anyone else. However there would be signs 🤭

I don't think I'd tell anyone other than my Husband, I'd want to tell my Mum but her and my Dad cannot keep a secret!

Full holding, all invested in late April this year:

    June: £175 (£100, £50, £25)
    July: £50
    August: £50
    September: £100

On the £1,000,000 question: I probably would post on here but perhaps I'm underestimating the anonymity a forum like this might provide, otherwise I'd not do it.

On the personal side though I'd keep it as quiet as possible, however (as is the case with Strawb_shortcake) my father would broadcast it far and wide, inside and outside of the family. Keeping it from him would be very hard and I'd like to be able to share it with him as he's always played the lottery, etc., so denying him the experience of a big win would be regretful.

Just need to win the damn thing first 😄

I'd keep quiet about it. Had a substantial win on the football pools ~ 30 years ago, but only my wife and daughters knew. As a result we have been able to help them both with house deposits, car purchases etc and now we can gift cash to our grandkids to build nest eggs for their future.

Never won more than £500 on PBs as far as I can remember -Hope springs eternal — every 2nd of the month!
