£50 for me this month. I've had the full holding for two years now and have 'won' £2,000 which is 3.33% return, about £1,000 less than a savings account (for a standard rate taxpayer).

  • My Great-Grandmother bought me a £5 premium bond when I was born and I've never won a bean in almost 30 years. I know it's only £5 so I'm not as likely to win as somebody with 10's of £thousands but I wouldn't buy them myself, I don't consider them an investment at all. I wonder how much that £5 would be worth now in a normal savings account?

  • £1000 2JQ - £50 ?, £50 Jan06,
    £1000 1RQ - £100May06, £50Nov06, £50Aug07, £100Oct07.
    £1000 134TM -
    £2000 110WB - £50Oct07, £50Aug07.
    £1000 119HT -

Dont have exact dates of purchase, but the first one 2JQ purchased 05July 2005. The 2000 one was disappointing for me, the 1RQ just seemed lucky!
I cashed these all in, on July08, and have just bought another 1000 again on October 31st 08, which I'm planning on keeping in for 5 years, and will go towards my mortgage at end of its 5yr fixed rate!

surely premium bonds are now almost worthless investing in with todays rate cut news

but the large amount of money invested will still be sufficient to pay out the winnings even when the interest rate does drop. I don't know how much is in the coffers - but I do know it is a very big sum - even 1% 'll be enough to keep at least 2 lucky people happy each month ....

The Premium Bonds I hold are 30000 this is the previous 6 draws winnings I have held these for approx 3.5 years but I have to agree the prizes I have one monthly have reduced alot in that period , But I`m not moaning too much as I won £25,000 on one bond back in 2005.My opinion overall is that the prize fund has shrunk so much that its questionable if this is a good place to gamble your intrest anymore. But I must amit I do look forward to the 1st of the month always with that big hope of the big one!!
  • Broke my cherry , 30k held , second month 50 notes...woohoo.

Thing is i checked the site on the 1st and my holders number showed not this time.

the boss is considering buying herself a full holding now too. With savings rates going south shes looking to buy some as they are looking more attractive , even with their own rate reduction.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?

    I received £50 today.
£3000 of bonds for about 10 years, Have won a few 50s, and a larger one, I can't remember how much; something like 200/300.

Anyway the 50 quid is very welcome :j
  • Received £50 yesterday I have £1000 worth and have held them about 5 yrs.
I think ive had 3 x £50 and 1 x £100 in that time, still holding out for the big one ...well it might happen lol
