the two best ones I've had over the years have been Brabantia & OXO Good Grips models, not the cheapest, but they work well & keep working

alternatively, those old-fashioned ones that you have to hammer into the tin are guaranteed to work, but are pretty scary  I keep one for emergencies, like mislaying either of my good ones :o

I find the old fashioned butterfly tin opener works the best.

I have found the best ones to be the cheap metal ones that cut through the top of the lid, had mine for years and its never failed me yet

My dad had one of those new fangled tin openers... and could not get on with it.
So it was back to his trusty butterfly tin opener. ;)

I have one of those new fangled ones... but it works for me :o

I've also noticed that the newer ones cut sideways through the top of the can - leaving a potentially dangerous sharp edge around the top of the can.

Surely (I've told you before, don't call me Shirley  ) the older ones which cut down through the lid are potentially safer, as the lid with the sharp edge can be disposed of inside the empty tin?

 I had the same problems as you. (in fact I think I posted on here about it once) I have found quite a good one I got it from lakeland ... I think its called Magnelid ( the writing has faded) you thumb back a grey lever thingy and put the device on your can then push the lever forward, then with only one hand you sort of work it around your tin in a scissor motion.:T About a tenner:o

I bought the One Touch (£15 at Lakeland?) and it cuts through all the value and branded cans except one tin of value tomato's. Very good though I still rate the old butterfly openers (though my hands aren't that strong sometimes!)

i have tried a number of tinopeners over the years with varying success - i cant get on with those butterfly metal ones at all. i now use a magican an it is the best, easiest one i have used. i have 2 one i keep for traveling as i take it to stay at other peoples houses as i generally cant work theirs!!
