Well after reading all your advice etc off i went to asda on sunday to get my food flask and they had sold out! So had to put in yesterday and there was a pink one on the shelf, or so i thought. I bought it cos it seemed what I was looking for, but having tested it out tonight by putting some soup in it, after 2 hours it was cold! So, now not very happy! It just says food jar on the side but is thick like the flasks I seen and was on the shelf where they had been, but looks like it must just be a fancy tub. :-(Total Debt (27th Nov 08) £16,707.03 Now £5,102.72Debt Free Date [strike]Nov 2012[/strike] August 20110

I had looked at those food jars in Asda - glad I didn't get one now.
However, when looking for a storage tub in one of mum's cupboards, I came across their old brown Thermos food flask - which I remember being used when I was a child (so, about 4 years ago then) It seems to have migrated to my house now - another thing on a 'permanent loan' as I can't see mum using it again. Well, it's recycling at its best and most importantly - cheapest
HM yoghurt here I come when we get back off our hols.:)0 -
Just to check, is a food flask simply a wide flask or are they different things? Are the asda ones cheaper than the deal at Argos?
I used to make my own yogurt and am keen to start again as my son goes through one of the big Yeo Valley pots every few days.
Ta for the thread!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

The Thermos vacuum food flask is just like a drinks flask only dumpier so that it's easier to spoon out the grub.
I think that the food jar will be insulated rather than a vacuum so the jar is probably intended to keep food cool, or warm for just a very brief time.
My kids had insulated flasks in their lunch boxes a few years ago, they didn't keep soup warm at all.
You would need to check that there is a glass vacuum tube thingy inside it (they have a plastic bowl that goes on top of this so you can take it out to wash) if it doesn't then it's just insulated0 -
Hi all
In true money saving old style, I always try to take my lunch into work. Recently its been a lot of salads/ cold pasta, but I recently invested in a lovley pink Stanley food flask (£10 from ebay) so hot food when I fancy it!
Today, I made myself noodles and vegetables in a black bean sauce to take to work. I'm hoping the veg won't be soggy by the time I get round to eating it - I made it this morning at 8 am. I chopped all the veg last night so I literally just had to boil the noodles (4 mins) and then throw the veg in the pan too. It took about 5 mins all in all.
Anyway, I was wondering of anyone had any ideas of what else I can make to have in my foodflask. Does anyone one use these regularly?BCSC Member 70:j

anything with pasta and soup works well as I used to have one in primary school my mum put soup in when it was cold.0

I often undercook veg slightly if I'm going to keep it in a flask as otherwise I find it had overcooked somewhat by the time I eat it. It depends on how crunchy you like your veggies though.0

I did undercook the veg - it was still brown by the time I got to it
I'm thinking pasta or soup might be the better option too. maybe rice and curry, though the smell might be too strong for the flask and taint it.BCSC Member 70:j
