Just wondered if anyone had used one of these and how well they worked? We can't use the microwave at work when the canteen is open, ie lunch time! So, when it's cooler I have been bringing in soup in a normal flask to have. Seen the food flasks in asda the other day and am wondering how well they would work for bringing in pasta, casseroles etc in the winter. I would be leaving home at 8am and not eating till 1pm.

I have never used one of these for hot food as I use mine to make wonderful yogurt so it will be useful for this reason alone even if it doesn't work out for your lunch.
But
By way of an experiment I will go and put some boiling water in mine and see how hot is is in 5 hours time - I have a food thermometer and get back to you then0 -
thanks that is really kind!Total Debt (27th Nov 08) £16,707.03 Now £5,102.72Debt Free Date [strike]Nov 2012[/strike] August 20110

I have a food flask & it works wonderfully, soup stays hot for at least 5 hours. The best thing is to heat the soup just that bit hotter than you would normally eat it (as in tounge burning temperature, LOL!) as the food does loose a bit of heat but is still fine to eat.0

I have one and agree with the comment about making sure the food is over-hot first. I've used mine for hot-dogs for days out before, just take bread rolls and ketchup with you.0

thanks, think I'll see how much they are and maybe get one tmrw. Would be using it for other hot things rather than soup as my normal flask is fab for soup, thought these would be better for pasta etc as they have a wide neck and are smaller.Total Debt (27th Nov 08) £16,707.03 Now £5,102.72Debt Free Date [strike]Nov 2012[/strike] August 20110 -
definately going to get one now, have been sold on the idea! Quite often end up buying lunch in the canteen in the winter cos I want something hot so this should save me some money! Just trying to come up with ideas of what to put in, thinking, pasta bakes, spag bol, curry and rice, casseroles. Anyone got any other ideas?Total Debt (27th Nov 08) £16,707.03 Now £5,102.72Debt Free Date [strike]Nov 2012[/strike] August 20110

I've done the hot dogs thing too, for days out. It's brilliant! We even fried some onions and wrapped it in tinfoil inside the flask with the bangers. It was still lovely about 6 hours later.
You can get tall flasks and short ones - if you are feeling flash I'd get one of each, as it is best if the food pretty much fills the space available. Also if you go for picnics you can put hot stuff in one and cold in the other. And you would then have two of the "bowls" that go over the lids!I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

i've got one of the food flasks with a wide neck, i was originally after a normal flask for soup, but this was one half price. think it was from Asda of Tesco's.
it's great, works just like a normal flask, and can easily keep your food to a hot temperature for 5 hours.
You can literally put in anythink you want to eat. i usually avoid strong smelling stuff like curries, as the smell is hard to get rid of.
you could try pasta soup, or chunky soup, with a few slices of of crusty bread YUM!!0 -
Just bought my 15 year old one for school from Asda. Cost £2.65, will be giving him stew and soup in the winter now!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

hello again crazy - I checked the temp after 5 hours and it was 65 degrees. This was by putting the boiling water in the cold flask, if the flask had been warmed with the boiling water first I expect that it would have been a little hotter.
It was certainly too hot to put your finger in!0
