For those who need a stick blender I got mine from Morrison's and cost £4.99. I think Tesco do a similar priced one too.
Made leek & potato soup for lunch today. Had a tiny bit of cream left from making kedgeree yesterday, so that went in the soup, it made it really rich. My 18 month DD loved dunking bread into it0 -

No beetroot in my supermarket on Friday so no soup.
(Except the pickled variety of course which I didn't think would help much!!)

What could be better than home made soup? The way to get the kids in the kitchen and involved is to make it fun, my boy is 6 and he learns cooking at school and loves coming home and experimenting with different flavours and smells....
I love soup, I do not blend mine as I like to see the veg, my fav has to be lentil soup, even the smell in the kitchen wafting through makes it worth the time and trouble to make it rather than buy a packet one... also I am diabetic and like to know exactly what is in my food so make my own ! xx0 -
Heres an easy one I found in a carol vorderman detox book - so it must be good for you! (and it tastes great). I also like it as it doesn't need potato to thicken it up like a lot do:
fry an onion
add 1lb carrots, 8oz swede & 8oz parsnips all finely chopped
fry gently for 5 mins
add 1 litre of veg stock
bring to boil then simmer 15-20 mins until veg tender
blend
makes about 4 portions or 3 if you are greedy like me!:rotfl:0 -
I made a gorgeous soup this week.
I am defrosting my freezer as you could hardly get anything in it. SO I was geting rid of what was left in the fridge.
I had found a Gammon joint in the back of the freezer so I boiled that up and we had it for Sunday lunch.
I used the stock from the Gammon, chucked in leftover red Cabbage, half a bunch of Celery, a couple of Mushrooms and left over bits of Gammon. I added some extra water and a veggie stock cube and zapped it with the hand blender.
It was gorgeous. I had just enough for 2 days lunch and now I wish I had been able to make more.
It was really filling too which is the most important thing as I am trying to stop my afternoon snacking habits!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I make my own soups and casseroles and stews. An extra ingredient I have been adding to beef stew lately is orange peel! - When I eat an orange now, I don't throw away the peel, I cut it up into small pieces and add it to the other ingredients, and I include the pith. I expect it would go with some soups too.
It adds extra flavour and extra nutritional value - at no extra cost.Lose weight by eating less salt! - Go on! - Try it! - It works!0 -

im the same, i buy up reduced veg (and fruit), freeze it in pre-prepared portions and make whatever - including soups with it. all types of veg, pearl barley, lentils... all dried pulses, leftover meats really thicken them up AND whats hm soup without hm bread to go with it?! always use hm stock, make it up in batches and freeze. bargain foods taste better too!0 -
I think I may have a go at Chorizo and bean soup - no recipe so am just going to fry off some chorizo with an onion, add stock and assorted veg and a tin of tomatoes then simmer with chickpeas as the "beans". If the OP who made the chorizo and bean soup could post the recipe that would be even better. - Think I'll add some chillies and paprika as well.Never let your sucesses go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.:beer:0

This sounds good, I'll have a go at the weekend. My cauliflower soup was OK but rather bland. I should have spiced it up a bit more! I like carrots and swede so this sounds tasty.Total debt May 2005 £83,232

We had a roast chicken for dinner so it's chicken soup and matzoh balls for dinner tomorrow
Can't wait! I love making soup - one of my faves is the parsnip, lemon and leek one from the New Covent Garden book, it's so good.
