I am pleased that you can add to the discussion without the need to name call as you previously had to resort to. Lady Freda did not steal another persons shopping, she took what I consider to be a luxury product that had been left in a trolley, unwrapped. She had to remove the trolley to get at the goods, prioir to getting her £1 back.Financial_Novice wrote: »Freddie's posts on this thread seem to be the very opposite of this. Freddie, do you really think you were being clever posting your selfish actions on here. Why are you a member of this forum if not to gain advice and have the opportunity to help others. Did you help the "numpty" as you insultingly called the person who accidentaly left part of his/her shopping. I think not.
No doubt you'll respond with a smart assed reply to this in a feeble attemp to cover your shame.
As to cover my shame, I do not have any, but admire the discussion this action has created. If you care to read the thread, most people here would return the goods, I would consider what I would do based upon the events at the time.Whoosh...
Here's little ole me thinking why is easter over then got drawn into this lot...
Well fellow MSE's here is my way of knowing what has happened to my Mum & Dad... Dad 72 left his wallet and cheap mobile, (does'nt even know how to text:rolleyes: ) on the shelf in diy in tesco,,, less than 3 seconds later i ran to CS and asked if it had been handed in ..It had
Mum also a just pensioner left her bag on the hang your bag part of the trolley Widnes store... when she went back ...gone.. called me in tears:o .. told her to go to CS... guess what handed in...
I was in Tesco garage and looked down putting petrol in ..£5.00 on floor. I handed it in as prev op stated with name and address it was not claimed and Cs called me to collect after 30 days as no-one had been to reclaim:beer:
Walking around town Found another £5.00 on floor picked it up and kept it...
This is my view on the disscussion that has evolved.advent1122 wrote: »Mrs Advent once found a bag in a train station.
It contained £300 cash and someones holiday tickets. So obviously someone was going to have a ruined holiday if Mrs A was not so honest.
She handed it in and left her name, address and telephone number.
She called the train station the next day and was told someone returned for it a few hours later.
She did not even get a quick phone call from the person thanking her.
So much for being honest.0 -

Of course I would abhor such an action, and I am sure that others here would do so as well.
Its pretty simple really Freddie. Ill explain it very basically. Why do you think theft is looked down upon or believed to be wrong in the first place? Because you are taking an item which may have meaning to someone else & cause them distress if they were to lose it. The more meaning the object has to them, the more distress you are going to cause.
This creates a situation in which clearly certain situations are going to be looked down upon more than others. I gave you a very extreme example. Mainly to point out what a load of nonsense your "theft is theft" argument was.
You take an object which very few people ever hold any meaningful attachment to such as a pen from a company thats supplied with a seemingly endless amount of pens and its very unlikely that anyone would even notice a pen had gone missing let alone feel any distress about it.
You take an easter egg from a bag the day before easter, when all the stores are basically sold out of easter eggs, knowing theres a reasonable chance that the easter eggs were for children, on an event which clearly only happens once a year, where theres also a reasonable chance the person who lost the goods would have phoned the store to find them again. And your creating a situation where theres a very good chance your going to cause distress to someone else with this action.
Considering the outcome of your actions is mainly what makes us choose between right and wrong not because something is generally labeled as theft for example. Instead it seems you continually make excuses to yourself about the fact that as you consider it a "trivial luxery" to buy an easter egg for yourselves..the person who bought the item is a numpty who wastes their own money & deserved to lose it if they left it behind. I wonder if you or your wife have ever bought something that could be considered a "trivial luxery" to anyone else ?
Regardless of how you feel about buying easter eggs, if they hold meaning to someone else for whatever reason, whether because they're for children, or whether its simply someone who likes chocolate treating themselves you have no right to take that enjoyment away from them & should consider that in future.0 -

I didn't have to resort to anything, I merely thought the words that I used accurately describe you and your family if the opinions that you keep on defending are what you truely believe.
Ok definition from law dictionary:
theft n. the generic term for all crimes in which a person intentionally and fraudulently takes personal property of another without permission or consent and with the intent to convert it to the taker's use
did she take the item intentionally and fraudulently - yes
property of another person - yes
without their permission - yes
with the intent to use herself - yes
Ticks all the boxes mate - your other half is a thief. No matter how you dress it up or whatever other horrific crimes may have been committed by other members of society or this board doesn't make it any less of a crime.0 -
Jesus C***** it's Easter!!!0

Lady Freda is going to get fat eating all the chocolate, Mr Freda will leave her for a younger slimer model so justice will be done in the end.0

Jesus C***** it's Easter!!!
<grins> And?:D:D
It's been an interesting read, this thread!!
OP - Just buy your eggs earlier next year. Your local Tesco just ran out of stock, it happens, they're probably kicking themselves but at the same time congratulating themselves on not having to reduce loads of eggs.
And Freddie, whilst I could understand someone desperate considering taking a forgotten bag of food, it was a bit crass to take something that didn't belong to you without at least making some effort to return it to it's rightful owner. You say you admire people that would consider doing the moral 'right thing', and it's a good job there are those out there that would have at least telephoned the store to let them know they had picked it up. I only hope that when you lose something precious, for your sake, you get a decent individual doing what you didn't. :rolleyes:If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

I'm going to bookmark this thread so I can read it next time I can't sleep instead of counting sheep!
I hope it doesn't get deleted like the Pizza Hut one.0 -
To all who have contributed to this thread- thanks for the positive input!!!
I am actually mostly pretty well organised for events and was merely stating that my local store was done with a major event in the calendar before it had happened- it wasn't just the eggs (which we managed very well without as it happens and the kids always get too much) it was that there was not a single card, flower arrangement or Easter gift to be found and the shelves were full of the 'next' stuff for Tesco to sell. It just depressed me a bit about the total commericalisation we all live with today.
Additionally for all those who work in customer service, I always try to be very polite to those I am speaking with- having worked in service industries myself I know how hard it is.
I will now return to all the friendly people on the competitions board and in future will keep my vents to myself.0
