Bit of a long shot, but maybe worth asking anyway - I've got a TV license for my house which AFAIK covers me to watch stuff on my laptop, iPhone etc too.
If I took my laptop to my girlfriend's uni halls and wanted to watch some TV there, would it be covered or not?
The answers are on their website.
TV Licensing;-
"Mobile phones
A licence covers you to watch TV as it's broadcast on a mobile phone, whether you're at home or out and about."
TV Licensing;-
"You don’t need a separate TV Licence for Any device powered solely by its own internal batteries (i.e. it is not connected to an aerial or plugged into the mains). Your main home’s TV Licence will cover this.
Boats, touring caravans or vehicles as they’re already covered by your main home’s TV Licence.
Static caravans, mobile homes or moveable chalets. Your main home’s TV Licence will cover you provided you don’t watch TV in both homes at the same time. In this case you would need to complete a declaration form."
.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Thanks derrick - I guess I could use it, and say it wasn't plugged in/charging at the mains at the time? Would that work? ;_; Don't want her to get into trouble is all0

just curious really, and realise that like most boards on here i will be attacked for not agreeing with the majority...
for those cancelling their tv licences because they only watch tv via iplayer and not live, who do you think funds the iplayer service and why should you be able to use it if you dont pay for it?
pls note, i have not posted this to cause an argument just wondering?0 -

Because I'm a money saver and it's the BBC's present policy that you don't need a licence to use iPlayer (not live). For example, this evening I watched 'The Apprentice' about an hour after it was first broadcast on BBC1. You'd need to ask the BBC about funding and rationale.0 -
How does the BBC block "foreigners" from using iPlayer?0

Based on the IP range from their Internet providers - you can get around this block by using a proxy from a UK range of IP addresses. It's hard to find the balance when you are love.
You're lost in the middle cause you have to decide between mind & heart.
Heart is the engine of your body but brain is the engine of life.

My brother has just moved into a rented house and logged online to apply for a tv licence
They have charged him the full £145 for the year even though it is only for a 6 month period
Will he be entitled to a refund at the end of the year? Or has he done something wrong on the application?0 -
i think you can get a refund of the un-used part of the year by sending them proof of his rental termination--you can do it via the licencing website-refund-mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

i rang the licensing centre and advised them i was away from my property and out of the uk for a long time and they said it was ok to stop my payments--they said i could get a refund by using the online form --i went to it and it said you needed proof of 'vacating property' but thats not what i have done--i just dont live in the uk or have a uk tv anymore---was it right what they advised me or did they mis-understand--i tried ringing back to clarify but i couldnt get past their recorded message system from abroad!!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

That's right. You almost certainly don't need a licence. They sent me a printed form and I just wrote that I only intended to watch DVDs, etc from now on. I didn't supply any 'proof' as such. How could I? The refund still came through.0
