penny, you advocate freedom of choice.
Those that don't want to fund the BBC don't have that freedom.
Even if they don't watch the BBC they still have to hand over their hard earned to fund these crooks.
The only way to get true freedom of choice is to have subscriptions.
BTW, the BBC already advertise.
The National Lottery is a profit making organisation which is advertised freely and often by the BBC.
Why is it allowed?
National Lottery raises lots of idiot taxes for the government. Millions of UK taxpayers are more than willing to pay the idiot tax. If we could make the idiot tax more popular there'd be less need for other taxes so those of us who are not idiots can enjoy ourselves more.
The National Lottery as a company doesn't make a huge amount compared to the what the government takes. Camelot takes 0.5p per £1 of tickets sold as profit. This half penny is then given as a dividend to it's only shareholder the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Reading Martins tip, it seems he is encouraging people to renew before the acutal time, to get a pre-increase discount.
Mine is due end of April this year. If I try to renew on their website using my credit/debit card, it says it is too early to renew ? do I have to wait 10 minutes before midnight on 31/03 ?
Don't know if it's been answered but you can only renew in the month of renewal, so from APRIL 1st for you.:cool:0 -

Quite.
TVL doorsteppers are well known for lying and threatening householders, not to mention intimidating, and, in some cases, physically assaulting them.
I, personally, have been lied to, and threatened with the police. This is a mess of the BBC's creation, and of misplaced Government forbearance. If it's left to individual citizens to re-balance and resolve things, then so be it.
Exactly. If you your employees to knock (in many cases hammer) on doors, and, without a shred of evidence, accuse the occupants of criminal behavour, you can expect a hostile response.Don't know if it's been answered but you can only renew in the month of renewal

My daughter uses You Tube on her tablet and has found on there a Live Link to click in order to watch a scooter / bmx completion. Would we need a TV licence for her to watch that legally? Thanks0

If you like watching BBC programmes you have a moral duty to pay for a licence. It is as simple as that.
Somebody who parasites off the bbc by watching, or pretending to watch, catch-up tv only is exercising their rights at the expense of their responsibilities and the rest of us suffer.
This is not rocket science. You will miss the BBC when it's gone!If what I said helped you, please "Thank" the relevant post. It cheers me up somewhat..0 -

I really won't. The whole reason I stopped paying for a TV Licence was when I realised I wasn't watching live tv due to there being nothing on that I wanted to watch. That was in 2005 and I have not watched live tv or paid for a licence since then.0 -

The same could be said, of people who drive classic cars. You will miss the BBC when it's gone!
I can assure you I won't.0 -

It depends on where the coverage originates.
- If it forms part of a linear TV service in the UK (and is broadcast there at the same time your daughter watches it on YT), it probably needs a Licence. (There maybe a small grey area around the same video stream being used by different broadcasters with different commentary and captions).
- If it does not form part of a linear TV services anywhere in the World, then it does not require a Licence.
- If it forms a part of a Linear TV service outside the UK, then it is a grey area. The TVL website says: no licence in one place, but this is contradicted elsewhere. My reading of the regulations is that a Licence is not required.0 -

I have to say that as a driver of a zero road tax car, I find this argument a little strange. The law is such that a person either has to pay a tax relevant to their activities or they don't - it's generally black & white, as you would expect.
I'm intrigued by this raising of "moral" objections to people having no tax liability in respect of the TV Licence. Are there any other areas of taxation/public services where you would apply this principle, or is the BBC unique - and if so, why?
My personal perspective is that it is ludicrous in 2015 for there to be a "State Permit" to watch TV in the first place. Whilst there is, I would encourage everyone to have one if they need one; equally I would encourage BBC TV Licensing not to breach laws or regulations in their pursuit of evaders. Their unwarranted intrusions into the homes and private lives of legally Licence-free people strike me as inappropriate and potentially unlawful from the outset, as does their negligence with regards to the management of their rogue employees (number unknown).0 -
just to add to the hatred of Capita , capita own many companies , one of which is the hated Parking eye
Parking eye have in this last week sent via a debt collection company 100s if not 1000s of letters which have raised the charges from £100 to in many cases £200 +
