In regard to TV Licensing, or the Census?0 -
TV Licensing - it strikes me that they seem to make a lot of threats to people but never appear to carry them outFlowers are sunshine for the soul0

TVL Warrants are known to be extremely small in number.
The BBC/HMCTS have obstructed access to the total figure (which really should be a matter of public record). However, sample figures for individual areas have been obtained, as well as confirmation of zero warrants in Scotland.
IIRC, Sheffield (a pretty typical city with a high student population) was 6 warrants over a 2 year period, and Teeside was 35 warrants over a similar period. So, there's some variability there, but the numbers overall are tiny.
It's extremely likely that when the visiting TVL operatives threaten a warrant, it is a hollow threat. It's also against their own policies to do it.0 -
give your skirting board a wipe over bob, for the love of god...
I'm over ten years tvl free, what should i do with the 1500 quid i have saved, stuff it down the drain? haha.
BBC do advertise, just read an article on the daily mail about product placement of nokias. They subliminally advertise, advertise to foreigners and sell their shows around the world for a profit.
If the bbc bought the rights to all of the football, i may pay them. But they would never do that, it would mean that they couldn't buy themselves iphones, i pads and get taxis for less than 1 mile journeys or pay !!!!!philes like jimmy saville. Not with my money.0 -
And of course, the BBC owns half of UKTV - which has all those ad-funded channels like Dave and Gold.0

ahh , you mean "repeat" tv
show on dave , then on the next , then the next , before returning to dave and advertising "exclusively on dave"

I've just wasted a few lonnnng minutes of my life, watching youtube videos of some 'characters' dealing with officers from TVL...and others from bailifs and car clampers and all I can say is how well 'up' on the law so many of these members of the public seem to be.
But many of them are also experts in knowing some of the most foul and insulting phrases known in English language. They also do seem to want to antagonise the officers, as much as they possibly can.
Crikey, if I didn't have youtube, I'd need to buy a TV and then even a lic...
Maybe not

Not sure what your point is - are you saying it would be better if people weren't "up" on the Law as it pertains to visitors to their homes?
There's not really any rocket-science, here. Being scrutinised in your own home by irate callers asking forcefully for "papers" ought to be confined to war films, not be an everyday occurrence in the UK in 2015. And especially not in support of dance-offs, bake-offs and fake-offs.
I'm very polite, as you can probably tell, but I wouldn't look down on anyone who did treat such callers harshly, especially if those callers were rude or deceptive (or have a reputation for rudeness and deception).
This is a mess of the BBC's creation, and of misplaced Government forbearance. If it's left to individual citizens to rebalance and resolve things, then so be it.0 -
They also do seem to want to antagonise the officers, as much as they possibly can.
Firstly, they're not "officers". They're commission salesmen.
Secondly, I don't blame people for being angry at them. They are, after all, cold calling innocent people, implying they're committing a criminal a offence.
Personally, I prefer the total silence approach.
