Uses cable doesn't it? I class that as the same thing, as they're providing the service to a fixed address.Cheryl0

Anyone considered if these Capita clowns are on some sort of commission for how many they can lie and trick into letting them in?
As I imagine the numbers of some sort of Internet connection would be high, they can presumably make a case for suspected live reception, and fix up a case.:coffee:0 -
Capita are on commission, and there are a small number of cases where it has been shown that false information was presented by Capita field staff in respect of LF evasion allegations.0

, but the one I'm waiting for (having heard quite a bit of talk about it) is the requirement to have one if you have internet access (doesn't even have to be broadband).
I can't see it myself, as that would effectively be a tax on the internet, indeed on pretty well every household, and governments of all complexions want us to be more connected. In fact there would be no more rationale for a licence fee and they might as well subsume it into general taxation.. Save a fortune on Capita's fees as well.0 -
I'm a bit annoyed with these jokers at the moment ... Bought a house a year or so ago (being refurbished very slowly!
)
Previous occupant was over 70 and so on free licence. Last Oct I received a letter addressed to previous occupant from them - assuming it was probably a reminder, I (stupidly) phoned them to tell them the previous occupant no longer lived there and in fact the house was an empty shell so didn't need a licence. I had a licence at current address and would transfer when we moved...
Since then they send me a letter every few weeks...telling me they know I haven't got one etc, they are going to come and visit, I am under investigation etc etc..some of them are really threatening - I could go to prison, be fined £1000 etc etc...
Basically I've told them the situation - if they chose not to believe me they are perfectly welcome to come and visit, I can't see any point of telling them again. They probably won't find anyone in - but that isn't my problem - and if they look through the window I am sure they will realise that there isn't a TV in there...
Now after months of these increasingly aggressive letters they have just sent me one of the original type - no red writing just saying - do you know you need a TV livcence if...?
I am just thinking how much it is costing them (and so by default every licence payer) to keep harrassing me ..and do they do it in a loop so they are going to send me the more threatening ones again...
Honestly I don't like them anyway - years ago in a shared house one of my flatmates, an Australian, thought he needed a licence so got a form for a B&W one before we told him he didn't need one ....cue a visit. I let the guy in, showed him our licence and mentioned in passing some of the confusion was because the renewal and it was in the name of the guy whose room the Australian had moved into ...he didn't say anything, asked to see the TV- and then read me my rights! (Why should I be expected to take responsibility for the whole house anyway????. )
He then told me because the licence (which we had all jointly just bought) was in someone who didn't live there anymore's name it wasn't valid and and we could be prosecuted...but if I was nice to him ( to a lone female - dodgy as hell) like say gave him tea and biscuits (and he winked) he would turn a blind eye  . Needless to say he didn't get any tea, was out on his ear asap and we never heard anymore -eventually we did change the name though. When they have creeps like them working for them no wonder they are hated!0 -
By what I read and watch on You Tube experiences, I think the best option is to not talk or answer the door, and have nothing to do with them.
I don't have a functioning TV, but being a female alone, they sure aren't coming in here! If they get a warrant and the police break in, they will only look as stupid as they obviously are.
Might be possible to email and warn them of unjustifiable harassment, but I somehow doubt it today with all the other illegal similar heavies being supported by this government, that it will make any difference.:coffee:0 -

I'd be fine with that - as long as the limitation is strictly confined to iPlayer (password or whatever). If they try for a Broadband licence, I predict a negative reaction.
"Please will you" is no less polite. I also have no objection to a requirement of a licence if you use iplayer.0 -
By a coincidence yesterday I was in a pub in the local city where my local office is based, and they were advertisng for investigators in the local rag:
"Salary + uncapped commission, 2012 average £25,189, flexible working etc. "You'll make enquiries at selected residential addresses, to explain, enforce and ultimately sell".....
So bit of an incentive for miss-selling, eh?0 -
My p*ss-pot upstairs awaits!:coffee:0
