I think you are best to leave it to your tenants to arrange their licences. Why not leave the TV in a decommissioned state and tell them that if they want to watch TV broadcasts they need a licence (although their home licence will cover them).
  • I always find it funny when TVL Goons look up at the roof at the aerial and the sat dish on the wall. Like that is proof of TV being watched. Aerial and dish could have been up there 15 years for all they know.
  • Are there any differences to TV licensing or to the way TVL operate in Scotland compared to the rest of the UK?

    No differences at all.
  • Hi, I do watch live tv received through satellite from abroad and I pay the license in the country where the channels are broadcast. Do I still need to pay the license in UK. Why would I have to pay it twice?

The UK licence is payable to receive satellite broadcasts from abroad.

Are you sure you are liable to pay the licence in the country of origin?
  • No, I don't have to pay the licence over there. I use to pay it before I did move to UK, it is much cheaper...
  • Can I ask, - if TVL are suspicious of someone receiving and using their live broadcast, can they obtain a search warrant and force their way into your home?

I read they don't have any detection equipment that is reliable these days.

I ask this because I have recently stopped my Direct Debit as my TV had blown something two months back and no longer functions. I hardy ever watched the thing anyway, and decided not to have the set repaired, and cancel the licence.

    In theory, yes.

In practice, they don't force entry as a matter of policy.

No-Feed-Elite. I would imagine they're unlikely to come round. I cancelled mu licence at the end of 2010, since when they've been notified that I've purchased three TV sets (one was a portable I bought just before I cancelled, one was a new one that gave up the ghost within 12 months, and the third was a replacement for that), and each time I've received a letter saying they can't find a licence for my address. All I did was go online to confirm I still don't require a licence and I've never had a visit of any type, so if buying a TV doesn't have them knocking on the door I doubt you'll have a visit. I'm due another letter July this year as it'll be 2 years since I last confirmed I don't need, but I can't see it requiring any more than that again :)

(I disabled my aerial when I cancelled my licence, and only use the TVs to watch DVDs and also use the large one for streaming from Netfl1ix and Wu@ki)
