Hayley's Debt Free by Dec 08 Diary

I have worked out my finances tonight and in order for me to pay extra off my debt in July i need to only spend £60 in June. At first i thought it would be impossible, but thinking about it a bit more I don't think it will be as impossible as i first thought. If i take my lunch to work everyday and don't have expensive weekends out i can probably get away with only having £15 a week to spend.
Throughout June I will update my progress and to help keep me on track note down what my money has been spent on - it will be hard but i have to be a bit more strict, as i give in to easily everyday and just buy my own lunch!0 -
That's still a good amount to be paying off the debt though hayley, remember every little helps. About the £60 a month, as you said it is do-able, you just need to be careful and watch every penny. Maybe this can be your challenge for the month

I hope that course helps you although i am afraid i disagree about public transport being more expensive when you counter in insurance, maintenance, breakdown cover, tax, mot etc.
Part of me thinks i won't bother learning to drive again at least not until i have my own house!
Congrats on paying off more debt, i am just waiting for my credit card statement to update online then i will do my totals update! Now a SAHM trying to earn some spare pennies each month0 -
Hi Hayley!:hello:
Ive just stumbled across your diary! Ive had a quick read through well done on the bingo wins!:T
How long have you been learning to drive for? £500 for an intensive course is alot of money! Have you had a test yet or will this be your first test?
Ive got to agree with lilmissmup driving is ALOT more expensive than buses/trains.You will spend more far than save. Insurance for new drivers is expensive, MOT's, servicing, repairs and the soaring petrol prices, keeping it clean, tax the list goes on.
BUT just jumping in the car to pop to shops, work on a rainy cold morning etc i couldnt do without. Although i have thought of buying a bike to cycle to work...get fit and save petrol!Make £5 a day JAN £121/175 FEB £283/175:jWeekly Grocery budget of £35! Jan £95.05/175 Feb £37.53/1750 -
Yesterday I got paid so my challenge has started , I really don't know how I'm going to cope with £60 from now until the 27th June.
I am not doing so well in my challenge, I have already spent:
Wednesday 28th May
£3.67 - Sainsburys
£3.00 Lunch
£1.13 magazines
Thursday 29th May
£1.49 - Birthday card
£7.00 - Primark - a pair of joggers and a casual top (i couldn't resist)
£2.65 Fathers day card
Total from the last 2 days is £18.94
Thankfully I have lunch to take to work tomorrow and I don't need anymore magazines so tomorrow SHOULD be a NSD.
Everyday I am going to list what I have spent that day, that way I can keep track of how I'm managing my £60. I'm hoping its going to be wet and horrible this weekend, that way i won't want to go out and spend money.
Really angry with myself that i've spent a lot of my budget already, but I'm going to work so hard in June to do this challenge.
Still no competition wins yet, I am entering around 50 a day and still nothing to sell - boohoo!!!
In regards to the comments about driving etc, I totally agree it might cost me more in tax, insurance, breakdown etc but I'm happy with that. I'm nearly 24 and hate the fact I can't get anywhere, I always have to rely on public transport, and where I live it isn't very reliable. My brilliant OH has very kindly driven me around for the last 3 years, so I must pass to be able to be his taxi for a change. I cannot wait for the night we can go out and he can drink for a change because i will be driving :j. Also, the job I'm going to go for in August you need a license.0 -
Just a thought do you have any budget card shops near you, i always use them now, got my OH's mum a lovely birthday card for 89p, i got all my christmas cards for under a fiver for family! Now a SAHM trying to earn some spare pennies each month0

I do have budget cards near me, but i never like any of the cards. My brain likes the expensive cards, so i HAVE to go Clintons.
I did buy a make your own cards gift set in the sale in January, i could have made my own cards for free, damn forgot about that!
Right, i'm all ready to enter the Glamour comp at 8am, I won't win as i never do but i gotta keep trying!!!0 -
Yay - its finally the weekend :j:j
Today i only spent 60p - it was going to be a NSD but i gave in and bought a can of diet coke at work, naughty me!!! I've always resisted because i wouldn't pay 60p for something that costs 38p in Sainsburys, but i was sooo thirsty.
Friday 30th May
60p - can of coke
I'm now just hoping I can cut down on the spending this weekend.
I have £40.46 left until 27th June!!0 -
I'm up bright and early as off to visit a few friends today who have moved to Manchester. My OH and I are driving up and he's said not to worry about any petrol money, but I might give him £5, he knows money is tight at the moment. My friend is aware of my monthly challenge and know i don't have loads of money to spend so we are going to try and do lots of things for free, i.e take my little god son to the park etc, and then tonight my friend is making a meal at home so that won't cost me. I might get us a bottle of wine but that won't cost much, the guys will be drinking so its only fair my friend and I have a glass or two :j
Fingers crossed this weekend I can spend less than £10.
I have joined the June £10 a day challenge, so when i get back Sunday I will start listing some bits on ebay.0 -
I am back from Manchester now, had a fab weekend & also spent little money considering i was away for the weekend. I cannot believe its Sunday evening already though, back to lovely work tomorrow.
Saturday 31st May
£8.50 - my friend and I went to watch Sex in the City movie while the guys stayed at home with the baby and played playstation.
£1.00 - packet of Haribo in Sainsburys - better than paying over £2 for a pack in the cinema.
I now have £30.96 till 27th June. That is a bit worrying considering Fathers Day is coming up and still not got a present for my daddy . Maybe i could slip an IOU in his card, get him a gift in July.
