Sounds like it has a lot of features for the price;)
I have my first loaf in my Tesco BM, am making a french loaf. I'm going to be so disappointed if its rubbish:oThe trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

I can't wait to hear how it turns out - do let us know asap! I will get one if yours turns out okay, because I think 10 programmes for £24.99 is a good deal.Jane

We bought one of these on impulse at the weekend, along with a couple of packets of bread-mix stuff (abuot 70p each think for Cheese & Onion and Parmesan & Sundried Tomato). More expensive than getting the ingredients yourself but I'd just mess that up.
It was very easy - just add the water and the mix (in the right quantities!), press the button and 3 hours later you have a very very delicious loaf of bread.
For £25 I'm quite impressed.0 -
Can anyone tell me how much sugar and salt is needed for a basic loaf on the BM please?
My Panny uses 1tsp of each but my Mum's MR uses much more.
I know she is after a Panny but cannot afford one but if the Tesco one uses less sugar and salt I may be tempted to get her one.
Thanks.Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.

My Mum bought one of these the other day. Im pretty certain its not a Panasonic, theres 10 settings, & no seed/nut dispenser. That said, it produces a very nice loaf of bread.
H xMy friend was going to try and get a Morphy Richards bread maker off ebay but lost out on the bidding. She doesn't want to pay a lot in case she doesn't like home made bread.
I have just seen a Tesco branded bread maker on their site and was wondering if any members have this model.
It looks quite good for the price, has an automatic nut and raisin dispenser, makes 3 sizes of loaf and has 11 settings.
It does mention a Panasonic cookery advice line so I wonder if it is made for Tesco by Panasonic.

The yeast makes it rise aslong as it gets food (sugar).
The salt slows the yeast reaction down and also helps make a crust.
Bread will sometimes work without sugar if it can be fed from the sugars in the flour.
Not putting salt in bread can also make it taste bland as it one of the best flavour enhancers ( have you tried a pot noodle after they took a teaspoon full of salt out?, even worse than normal!!)
Every machine is different and makes the yeast, sugar and salt work to different degrees.
Try reducing the amount of salt slightly and changing to honey if your concerned. Don't try removing it from your bread totally first as it could make a loaf that high it touches the lid.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0 -
Just removed my first loaf and its YUMMY, i did it on the french bread setting.
However i looked at the Tesco website this morning to see if the have changed the description. They havent, but they have upped the price to £39.97:eek:The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
worth checking price in your local tesco extra - in mine today they still had the yellow SEL, showing the low price, which should have been removed yesterday, so if you bought one and it came up on till at £39.97, you could technically pop to CS and get DTD refund - I have a panny so was only looking lol0

I rang Tescos on Monday about the incorrect spec, and the person I spoke to insisted that the spec was right, but when I queried this he said he would check and they would ring me back yesterday. They didn't ring back and so I decided before that I would just order one and give it a go. I was horrified to see the increased price so rang them up again and told them the tale and the SA said "It's been a very popular product Madam so we've increased the price as it's now in shorter supply" I was furious and told him that that was rank profiteering, which he seemed to find amusing. I have just rung and spoken to the manager in Cardiff and told him what happened and he agreed to let me buy it for £24.97! I should think so to! No wonder Tescos are making so much money!Jane

I have a MR and don't use any of the recipes that you get in the manual as they all call for loads of sugar and I don't use milk powder either.
Here are a couple of recipes that I tried this week and they came out fine, get your mum to try these:
Small Basic White
210ml water
375g white bread flour
1½ teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
25g/1oz butter (spread etc)
1 teaspoon fast action yeast
Small loaf, pale, programme 1 (Basic white)
Small Brown Loaf
280ml water
250g brown bread flour
125g white bread flour
1½ teaspoon granulated sugar
1½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon fast action yeast
I set it to small loaf, light colour and programme 1(Basic white)0
