I can confirm it does have a french bread setting:DThe trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

Yup, you can make M,L,XL loaves in the tesco one. It has 10 settings: Basic, French, Wholewheat, Rapid, Sweet, Ultrafast, Dough, Jam, Cake and Bake.
It also has a viewing window and a Timer(wanted this so i could wake up to fresh bread;) )The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
I bought the Tesco one on impulse when I spotted it in the shop. I'd been contemplating one as a result of this board but wasn't sure whether I needed or wanted. I like a lot of the fancy breads with nuts and stuff but they are too expensive to justify so i decided it was a need and jumped in with both feet. Tried it out the first time with the basic wholemeal recipe in the booklet and am now well on the way to proving the woman can live on bread alone! Haven't got round to trying the nuts yet!
Did my first french bread recipe this morning and it turned out fab and rather more bread shaped than the wholemeal, which seems to sink in the middle a bit (although that's probably me, not the machine)
I can confirm the 10 programmes, two loaf sizes (700 and 900 grammes, whatever that means) and no nut dispenser but that wasn't a disappointment to me as I wasn't led to expect one.
btw - silly question, I suppose, but what does "jam" mean - you can use it to make jam? How?a wombling we will go...0 -
Hi!
I was going to start a new thread today and ask a quick question, but having found this thread straight away, do you mind if I just ask you all - Is using a breadmaking machine economical? I know it's lovely to have fresh bread, we always buy bread from the baker's, I just wanted to know if it would be more expensive to make my own before I went and bought the machine as we are on a tight budget (of course!!)
Have just been looking at the Cookworks one in Argos before coming on MSE, but having read the reviews, I am going to seek out the Tesco one now, so thanks!!0 -
Not sure the exact costing, someone else has worked it out on another thread(cant remember which, sorry).
However, i buy Granary style loaves and they are currently about £1.50 each:eek:
If i remember correctly the costing to make it yourself is about 30-40p
Plus there is the advantage of knowing exactly what went into it, and knowing its fresh:DThe trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Weird, BM is now up to £39.97:eek: Its in the final clearance section, why have they put the price up
And they havent changed the description, cheeky beggars!

I worked out that it costs about 30p to make a small brown loaf and 24p to make a small white one, that includes the electricity.
Roughly broken down the costing for a small brown loaf, 15p brown flour, 4p white flour, 5p yeast, 3p butter and 3p for the electricity.
I rang the Morphy Richards helpline and the quoted 2.8p for a 3½ hour cycle to make a small loaf. Even though your bread maker is on for that length of time you don't use that much electric because a lot of the time your bread is just sitting in there rising. They said you use most electric for kneading and baking at the end.0 -
Prices above are about right!Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:0
