I found this Sharon on another thread ....

9 grams = Full teaspoon level (pressed into spoon as it is likely to be be "bitty")
    4-5grams = Half a teaspoon.
I use digital scales which can go up to 2kg. Put the pan on it then weigh it all not needing to get anything messed. Even just weighing the water saves you getting a measuring jug.
Can't really go too wrong with a panasonic.

I will give it a go tomorrow with the fresh yeast and see what happens

What yeast is it people are using? I tried some fast yeast which comes in sachets, so like it said I added 2 sachets but it just didn't work!
My 1st loaf was good but a bit heavy, had it on French mode though and used a "pre-mixed" packet.
2nd loaf looked amazing (but a bit small) but you could rub the bread back in to dough!
Also struggling on recipes for 900g loaves, as I'd def prefer bigger ones.

I use a dried yeast at the moment... Its in an orange packet... apologies cant remember what it is ... I measure it out, but tomorrow I am going to try fresh yeast ... free from Tesco :T

Hi generationgav, yes I just open the wee packs of yeast and pour from them. These are the fast action yeast you are talking about. All of the supermatkets sell them, so do Hovis etc. I do believe these have special stuff added to accelerate the process, I think someone told me it was vitamin C. You can buy the dried activated yeast in a wee tin but that is the dried one you have to mix with water and a wee bit of sugar. The REAL yeast everyone is talking about that you get from the supermarket is free, it's brill but I find you are always best to do a second proving when using it. ( nothing smells as good as the real live yeast when it is doing its magic in the jug with warm water and sugar it reminds you of how good the finished bread will taste ) The sachets let you do a mix that will mean throwing all the ingredients into the bread maker, knead, prove then go staight to bake. It all depends on how involved you want to be in the process. When you are upping the amount of yeast and other ingredients to make the larger loaf don't panic about being too exact, a few grammes here and there won't matter. Think to the days when all that was used to make bread was very rudimentary scales judging by eye, and no temp control on the hearth! :rotfl::rotfl:Just have a go.:D Do let me know how you get on.

    Glaswejen,
I have the cookworks from argos and have had no problems with it, although it seems to be better cooked one end than the other but this doesn't worry me!

How about this ' Rum and Raisin Loaf ' you can always just leave out the rum (think I may try this myself).

    75g/3oz raisins
    1½ tbs dark rum
    1 egg
    140ml/5fl oz milk
    350g/12oz white bread flour
    ¼ tsp ground ginger
    25g/1oz castor sugar
    ½ tsp salt
    40g/1½oz butter
    1 tsp easy blend yeast
    2 tsp clear honey (warmed)

Place raising and rum in small bowl and let soak for 2 hours or longer if you can.

Add egg and milk to bread machine pan.

    Add flour into pan.

Add castor sugar, ground ginger, salt and butter to pan (all in seperate corners).

Add yeast to centre of bread pan.

Set to basic normal setting, medium crust, small loaf.

Add rasins when machine beeps or after first kneading.

Put on wire rack, brush top with the warmed honey and leave to cool.

    :)

None of the stores around me have them in stock. Checked a 40 mile radius :( Oh well will have to buy it online at £39.97. Still you get £5 off with code and £1.17 in points.

I took a print out of the website so I might take it back to my local store and complain that the extra stores are selling it cheaper at £25 and the the product does not have the features listed on the website (The website they are saying is correct over the catalogues) Maybe I can get a £14.97 refund out of them?
Where abouts are you - -Warrington Tescos had them in the other day - -a great big stack in the middle of the main aisle all for £24.97.
