My thoughts exactly - from the way you've ripped into me Mrs E, I'm not surprised people thought you were being rude on a previous thread.

Its insulting & nasty to tell people to throw their kids out, because they shouldn't ask for a council house big enough to house them.

I haven't ripped into you at all.

Just trying to defend this poor lady (A TAX PAYER & COUNCIL RENT PAYER) against a load of abuse for "daring" to ask for am extra bedroom for her husbands young son.

i don't think the abuse has been at all necessary, but i do think it's quite cheeky to want an extra room for a visitor - that's the key issue, the child doesn't live there all the time so i can see how people get annoyed by that. given that council housing is in short supply, it has to be given on a needs basis and there will be other families in greater need..... i'm not meaning to bash the OP, just aiming to be realistic really.

i think the tone of the posts would be very different if the word 'entitlement' was changed - it's that that appears to have upset everyone! i think the strength of your defense has somewhat stirred it up too - there have been some shameful posts on here, but starting fights over them just takes over the whole thread. ignore the nasty posts or report them to abuse, but don't draw further attention to them!!

I agree she is probably not entitled to one & doesn't NEED one. No arguement there at all.

It was the sheer rudeness because she dared ask.

Had she asked about what benefits she was entitled too, she probably would have got a load of helpful replies & IF anyone dared to be rude, a load of support & defence.

But then its not PC is it?

Have just caught the end of this thread and read backwards out of curiousity to see the 'nasty abuse' aimed at OP for myself. What I found on the whole is people getting on the defensive!

Lets cut to the chase people. OP asked a question that was at best very naive, at worst alluding to a little greed on their part. The truth maybe lies somewhere inbetween. Peope are getting shirty (if you want to call it that) because its another example of the 'here's my problem what are you going to do about it' culture. I don't think anyone is suggesting that the OP or people in council houses are second class citizens but even the mere fact there is a query as to whether a bigger house might be available (when evidently uneccessary) reflects a certain mindset surely?

Also, the OP may not deserve grief but I'm a reletive newbie and even I know the kind of response this thread would be likely to generate so it's a bit late in the day to play coy....

Ooh, it's like an episode of Jermey Kyle in here. All we need is a love triangle and a DNA test and we're all set.
