Council house entitlement!!!

Does anyone out there know whether we are entitled to a bigger
council place?
2 adults, my daughter who is 12, and partners 8 year old son
that stays every other weekend. (9 this year)

We live in a 2 bed council flat, his son sleeps on settee in front room
when he stays.

Are we entitled to a 3 bed?

Thanks ahead for any help, and how do you get a HA place?
What is the difference?

We both work, me part time, him full time £17.000 a year between us.

You are not entitled to any accommodation. However, the size allocated to your size of household would be a two bed property.
    Gone ... or have I?

First check your local council's website and if that doesn't have any information contact their housing office.

No one here will be able to specifically say if you are entitled to a bigger place because different councils have different rules due to the constraints on their housing stock.

BTW due to the fact the partner's son only stays with you for less than 20% of the time then probably not
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)

no - you will not be entitled to a larger house simply because you have a visitor every other weekend
  • My husband and I have 3 children together (ages 5,3 years and 17 months) and 3 from his first marriage of 15yrs, 12yrs and 10yrs. 3 girls and 3 boys in total.

On the new Home Option scheme we can 'bid' on 3 bedroom house. The 3 from his first marriage don't count as they are only here at weekends and holidays.

    best wishes

It just doesn't work like that I'm afraid... my daughter has 3 children 14yrs 10yrs and 3 yrs, 2 girls and a boy all in a 2 bed maisonette.. the eldest girl recently begged to be allowed to go live with her grandparents so she could have her own room... the council seem happy to let this state of affairs to continue as according to them my daughter does not qualify for bigger accommadation and even is she did they don't have any available...

Yep agree with the above posts!

I hate hearing about council dwellers wanting bigger houses just cos they need to share rooms. Us other folk have to work our butts off to be able to afford bigger houses and i think everyone should have to do the same!
  • Eli - sorry about the barrage of abuse. No one knows your situation and shouldnt really jump to conclusions. You said you both work so therefore pay the rent etc. I dont consider you a leech.
I dont have the correct answer to your question but a phone call to your housing office manager would give you the correct answer. Ask them for a copy of the rules/law so you know your being given the correct info.

i hate it when council dwellers wants somewhere bigger and expect the state to help them. help yourself is my belief, work hard, ean the money and enjoy the fruits of your labour, not mine

I can see where they are coming from though - as a private home owner, if I have more children and feel I 'need' more rooms, then I have to buy a bigger house and that costs a lot more money which I can't afford, so I have to make do. Same should apply in respect of council properties. Can you not rent privately if you need a bigger house?
