BG_Porgy wrote:Hi Y'all, I may now be a 'Notso' but I am still having probs navigating
Is there a dolly dimple way of visiting the sites that I like to keep in touch with but do not necessarily want to post on
It would be great if there was an equivalent of 'Favourites' that I could just do a quick check on ?
Anyone got an update on when the MSE idiot's guide is due out ?
Thanks
BG Porgy
As promised the "idiot's guide" although I prefer the name "beginner's guide" has been started on This Site here. :j
BG, remember to utilise the Quick Links button and also New Posts. Quick Links takes you to lots of places errr quickly0 -
i run xp and ie6 on a dell laptop.
when i go to the "pie chart" on "my computer" .... "c" ... "properties" ... it sows of approx 60gb capacity i am using 10gb .....
how can i see a list of all the content that makes up the 10gb useage. ??
I know about the "add/remove programs" .. that lists programs and their size ... but what about everything else ??
apart from just increasing my knowledge and understanding .. i want to use this as a way of deciding on removing stuff .
thanks0 -

Well I've just tried that......Its got to be the worst thing i've ever seen for disk manangment.
It looks very erm.............trippin and doesnt really tell you where the biggest files/folders are.
Think i'll stick with TreeSize TVM.0 -
thanks t41, i tried sequoia and couldn't make any sense of it ... then did treesize which was straightforward.
(unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything on my machine except necessary programs/drivers etc )0 -

OK, I''m certain you will think i am bonkers, but i am having a slwo day dissertation wise so am tryiing to but a good external harddrive. A lot of them say they have fire wire capabilities - what is firewire ?
On front of the tower it says IEEE 1384(firewire included) - where is it? what is it? is it one of the little ports on the front where i plug my camera in ?
Now, also, above some of the port things , there are these symbols - now, thi s was my neice's idea and she has copied them as best as she can in paint! It'll give you all a good laugh anyway (although she has tried very hard!)
(thats a circle by the way lol!)
what is this?!
and this!!
i am dying of embarrasment but i don't know what they are! its like an ancient language! from space!0 -
The green one is USB.
Firewire (aka IEEE1384) is like USB but better although not as many things use it. It is mainly for things like digital videocameras which need to transfer a lot of data, so I would suggest it is a good idea for an externat harddrive, although you should make sure it can use USB as well in case you want to access it on a PC without firewire.0 -
