Thanks a lot.0 -

It is a small component/application that can be embedded into other Windows applications like Internet Explorer. Kind of like a Java applet or Flash animation. The problem here is that ActiveX controls can do pretty much anything they want to your system, once you click the "Yes, I'd like to download and run that".
You can disable them in Internet Explorer. I would, if you're still using it."0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

Run ActiveX controls & plug-ins -- basically, this will tell IE that it can attempt to run stuff on a webpage. This includes things like Flash and Real Player plug-ins too.
Download signed ActiveX controls -- These are controls that have been verified as "safe" to Windows, and they include a certificate with information about the control (etc). This one should be OK on "Prompt".
Un-signed, set this to disable. Scripted, disable this too. If you're finding that a website using ActiveX controls doesn't work (very few actually use ActiveX controls, being Windows only -- a bad thing) and you know what the website is attempting to do (say, online banking for example), you can add it to the trusted website zone which has a different set of security options to play with.0 -
Thanks jma :T - Have followed your suggestions. On the Run Active X controls & plug ins, are you saying leave that on "Enable" ?"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

Hi Y'all, I may now be a 'Notso' but I am still having probs navigating
Is there a dolly dimple way of visiting the sites that I like to keep in touch with but do not necessarily want to post on
It would be great if there was an equivalent of 'Favourites' that I could just do a quick check on ?
Anyone got an update on when the MSE idiot's guide is due out ?
Thanks
BG Porgy0 -
I'm not sure about an equivalent of a favourites but you can subscribe to any thread you're interested in without having to post in it.
All you do is open the thread and at the top of all the messages you have a number of options (in the sort of beigey coloured bit). Choose Thread tools, and then simply select Subscribe to this thread.

PS - I love these new animated smilies and so am going to completely inappropriately put one here! :beer:4oz rice crispies, 4oz butter, 4 mars bars.Melt, mix, cool, eat. Yummy!0 -
Thanks JB now I can at least put them together and access then via CP
