Hi Pink.1970 - yes, it's heartwarming, isn't it? You'd think, listening to the news and reading the papers, that there isn't much kindness about but there is; this thread, and indeed this whole site, has proved the opposite.

Hi folks , sorry I haven't checked in today, been helping OH load stuff from his storage unit to go into his new workshop, hard work let me tell you!!
anyhow, Thanks very much to Aussielass and r.mac, your squares arrived today.
Thats 2 more original members' squares for Smokys blanket and 29 more to be delivered!
I want to thank everyone again for the cards and notes you've sent me,it's a real honour to be involved in this and I will treasure the cards and notes always.
The cards and notes that are being sent for Smoky are wonderful too: touching and heartwarming and I know they'll bring her lots of comfort and help her to see that one day she will feel 'normal' again.
It's amazing too that we all want to carry on making things and helping folks less fortunate than ourselves despite our own struggles, it's so heartwarming.
anyway enough of my blubbering, I'll catch you guys later,,LaineyXXXXdoing what I do best...trying!!-- lainey :j
Proud to be a Wooligan0 -
Just finished my first little preemie hat! I did the stretchy rib one in medium size and it is so tiny! I am just casting on in the same mint green baby wool for a top knot one. I will be posting off my 2 squares to Naomi on Monday as promised. So glad this thread is carrying on:jOur days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Hi all! Thanks, Lainey, for all you are doing and for updating us on the squares that are arriving!
I finished my 'top knot' hat and I love it! It's so cute and really easy to do. I'm starting the super stretchy one in a minute but I also could not resist doing a tiny one for when the Innocent Smoothie campaign starts - it took no time at all and I think, when the campaign is up and running, I shall try and use all my really tiny oddments of wool on those!
I have one square to post to Naomi - I forgot to post it this morning; I will also post the teddies that my Mum made for the Smokelets off to Lainey on Monday.
I'm really glad this thread is carrying on - I think I would be lost without it now; I'm enjoying it so much.
Have a great evening!

Hello! I posted my squares this morning - late I know, sorry!
I've just started a hat, but as I don't knit, I had to search around for some crochet patterns. I found these if they are any help to others like me who can only manage one pointy stick at a time. Is it ok if we make hats that are not from the Loving Hands patterns?
Also, baby heads are really small right? Only my hat looks so tiny! I don't have kids, so I can't really judge. Looking through these patterns is making me broody though...Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -
Hi C1aire - I don't think it matters at all what patterns we use for the hats - it's the hat that counts and a crochet one will keep a tiny baby just as warm as a knitted one! Thanks for the link to the crochet pattersn - I shall do couple from there as well. The knitted ones knit up quickly so I should imagine the crochet ones are even quicker!
WE're doing all different sizes of hats; some of them will be for premature babies and their heads are very tiny so don't worry about the size of yours, they are bound to be suitable.
I am like you in that making these little hats and looking through the patterns is making me broody, too! However, with two grown up sons and two grandchildren, I will not be giving in to the urge to have any more myself!

Here is an update on the hats so far - if any more have been completed I will add them as we go along! The first figure under a name is the Save the Chidren/Preemie hats and the second one is the Innocent Smoothie hats!

Can you put me down for 2 hats for STC please?
Am loving this thread - it feels like I am learning a lot - the squares were a nice thing to start with and learn a few different stitches, now its great to be making something in 3D!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -
Oh no! Missed the bit that says not to make baby hats in white! Umm...anyone want a couple of preemy/newborn hats - both white, one with a blue trim, one with a pink one?
Doh!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -
Hi C!aire - I have just 'approved' you to join the Wooligans on Yahoo! I wish now that I had highlighted in the thread about not using white to make baby hats but this only applies to the third world. I would still send your white hats to Loving Hands with a note explaining and they will be able to send them to somewhere in the UK. I'll still count them in the running totals. Somewhere in the UK there will be a baby boy and a baby girl that needs them!
