Elona - the hats can be knitted or crocheted; I'm doing some of each!

Ifonlyitwaseasier - here is a link to an excellent knitting tutorial site http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/learn-to-knit
It's full of tips and so on - you'll be making hats in your sleep!

  • hi folks, sorry I haven't been around as much lately. I've sewn two strips of 7 squares together so far, when I have 9 strips of 7 I'll sew them together to make Smokeys blanket. will try and getrsome pics up soon.

I also got 3 more crochet squares today but don't know who they're from as there wasn't a note with them. They're in a white plastic bag with a school label on them, any clues anyone?
as soon as the blankets are done I'm going to start on the preemie hats but I spotted the dalek and tardis pattern when I was scanning the site on my lunch....I gotta make me one of those lol!!!
Right ,off to make tea and then carry on sewing.....ttfn folks
Oh, Hi Elona, I've added you to Smokys list for when I write a card to go with the blankets, thanks for being here.

  • I managed to finish my first hat today :j

I used the same easy side wides knit pattern that r.mac used (ty r.mac!). Can we knit them with any pattern for Save the Children or do they have to be with the STC pattern from their knitkit and other hats are for prem babies in the UK? I can't do any of the STC pattern as I don't have any 5mm needles... but will once I have got some!
Loving knitting for the Wooligans! :j my totals:

    Jellybeans
    22 baby hats ; 3 Teddies for Tragedies ; 15 buntings ; 9 boobs ; 2 baby blankets ;
    8 Innocent Smoothie hats ; 2 Scarves ; 4 Adult hats ; 6 Aaron squares ; 12 hedgehogs

Hi, I've just finished a preemie baby top knot hat. It is so diddy, I did the smallest size is this right? Do we need to do a variety of sizes?

I'm sorry to be dense, but I think I've lost the plot. Where do I post this hat to. I will get it in the post as soon as I know.

Jellybeans - We can use any pattern for the hats; the patterns on the site are for guidance, really, plus they are really simple to do. I've knitted a couple and now I'm crocheting one.

Bellaquidsin - we can do any size child's hat from preemie upwards. If you look on www.lovinghands.org.uk you'll find the address there. Don't forget to update on here so we can add it to the running total!

I think Loving Hands distribute the hats as they see fit. In the third world, for example, white is seen as a symbol of mourning so any white hats would be sent to places in the UK.

Lainey - good to hear from you. I hope you are OK? Thanks for all you are doing! When you get time, try and find an online tutorial for learning to crochet - it's really quite easy and grows much faster than knitting! Also, if you have bad hands (I have tendonitis in both of mine) it helps to alternate between the two. I love to knit and crochet and get really cross when my hands start to hurt; I have no intention of giving it up. When I worked full time (doing a lot of typing and handwriting) I had to stop knitting and it nearly drove me mad! Now I work from home, I can pace myself better.

Off to update with Jellybean's and Bellaquidsin's hats.

The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats which we can do in readiness for the go ahead of Sainsbury's next campaign.

Hi Mrs Moneypenny - I think with all the squares that were 'in progress' in Lainye's post last week, that we are finished! I have one more to post which I will get off in the post today. The 'hats' total is rising brilliantly - I'm still amazed by the enthusiasm. The hats are so cute, aren't they? I'm so glad they will go to such good causes.

i've done 2 little smoothie hats this afternoon, ones brown marl, and the other pink and white stripes. I'm using up some tiny scraps of wool too small for other projects.

My DD has told me she'll photo my hats later and help me post some of them

Hi Mrs Moneypenny - I'll update with your two smoothie hats and the STC hat that I have just finished. I'd also be grateful if you would tell me how your DD manages to post the photos - I just can't seem to do it!

The first figures are for the STC (Save the Children) hats and the second is for the (IS) Innocent Smoothie hats which we can do in readiness for the go ahead of Sainsbury's next campaign.
