If you speak to them you may be able to come to a payout for repairs. Some will let you do it, some won't, so your best bet is to phone and speak to somebody.0

Had a letter from sc this morning with a renewal policy amount £450 got straight on the phone and told them i had not owned the car for three yrs turns out they have had about £1500 pounds of me for insurance on a car i dont own do these people deal with dvla spoke to someone about this and was told i had to prove i didnt own the car well the solicitor threat came out and he was quite helpful but we will wait and see dont deal with them they will rob u blind makes me wonder how many people they have robbed.
Did you notify them you sold the car... you've gone through 3 renewals!? Surely you had other renewal reminders or you checked your bank statement and saw that £1500 has gone out of your account over 3 years. If you didn't notice that you either a) have an amazing job or b) don't check your finances enough.0 -

Well I got a quote for my Hyundai 4x4 and all seemed good, I called them as I always do my insurers to make sure they have no problem with the side steps I have on the car, something that is standard on most 4x4's and ALL of the other people I have insured with had no problem, some dont even register it, some class it as a listed modification but nobody has ever charged anything extra.
Swiftcover wont insure the car with them as they were not factory fitted, even though they are the SAME Hyundai ones that are fitted if you buy them with the car. Hyundai have confirmed they DONT fit them at the factory but instead the dealear fits them (3 bolts), the SAME dealear and guy who fitted mine for me. But no apparently their is some problem with the fact they are fitted after.
I called them and got a load of stupid excuses, even trying to convince me it costs more if their is an accident and they have to replace them, when I asked why it costs more to repalce a set of the SAME steps fitted at the factory but they would cover the facory ones not the dealear fitted ones, they could not see why this was wrong ! Idiots
Bull bars on the front, I could understand, a major mod, skirts, body kits, I can understand, something that makes the car more stealable I can understnd but some steps to get in and out of the car, come on Switftcover COMMON SENSE needs to be applied here.
Thanks to this I am now in the process of cancelling our other 2 house and 1 car insurances with them, work out the maths on that one, the insurance we are cancelling totals around £2k per year plus the £500 odd for my car and the break down cover I would have taken out with it.

When you are involved in an accident or need to claim, they assess the total repair cost and compare it to the value of the car. If it's going to cost more to repair the car, they class it as a 'write off' and then give you the value of the car instead.
You could probably get the car repaired a lot cheaper, but the insurance have a lot of extra costs involved which need to be paid for, and they only use new parts and insurance approved repairers.
Although you should / may be able to come to an agreement with them where they pay out £xxx.xx for you to have the repairs done privately instead of them dealing with it.
This is soo true, my partner crashed her Fiesta in to an aircon unit, no major damage and was totally drivable, spoke to the insurance companty who said it would be a right off, when i went in to it, turned out because the headlight was broken it would need to be towed in as they could not allow it to be driven with a broken headlight even in the middle of the day (repair centre was about 2 miles away) and the cost involved in towing it in made it a right off. I went to a breakers, got a light for 25.00 and replaced it, then they took it and repaired it (botched job, took2 go's to get it right and it was their own repair center). Then they had the cheek to argue about the cost of the light, a new one from Ford was over £100 so I had saved them a bloody fortune and not even charged for replacing it. sometimes their systems are totally mad.
Funny thing was the repair centre broken the fitting on the light and tried to say it had happened in the accident, they were not aware I had replaced it !
They also broke the fornt grill and tried to glue it, again they tried to say it was already like that, until we showed a video I took of me wiping the WET glue with a stick. The front wing/ bonnet had a 2cm gap one side and was a perfect fit the other, after they had replaced the bonnet and all the sound deadening was hanging off. And this was a repair centre totally owned by this insurance ocmpany (not swiftcover i should add).0 -
avoid like the plauge i had a policy with them 18 months ago had to go and buy a printer to print my documents to tax my car, then after a few weeks i cancelled the policy which cost me £40 and they had the cheek to tell me to destroy any documents i laughed and said it would help if you actually sent some
anyway 18 months down the line i get a letter demanding £20, chap on the phone says its an outstanding admin fee :S0 -
I am considering switching my insurance from direct line to swiftcover after discovering that they can reduce my insurance by about £500!!
Has anyone had any experience with swiftcover, good or bad? The price is good, but how is the service?
I've just reported them to the Ombudsman as they renewed my insurance without notification, when I told them that I didn't request it they told me that I hadn't "UNCHECKED" the relevant box, then charged me £34.00 to cancel as the "cooling off period" had elapsed before I got my credit card statement, convenient timing eh? I'd already got a cheaper deal with Barclays Insurance on Confused.com. As far as I'm concerned they are a disgrace and I advise anyone to stay well away, even if it costs you an extra £10.00 or so.0
