    to the owner of Swiftcover:

    Mr David Fretter
    Swiftcover.com
    Swift Court
    Fudan Way
    Stockton on Tees
    TS17 6EN
He is only Operations Director. As dacouch says, they are owned by Axa.

Didn't you read the policy before you bought it? Very clearly states that a £25 fee will be charged for cancellation within the 14 day period.

    So they've lied to me!

    There's a surprise!!
It says in their policy ( http://www.swiftcover.com/carinsurance/policy/definitions/ ):
"AXA Insurance UK plc and Swiftcover Insurance Services Limited are wholly owned subsidiaries of AXA UK plc and are part of the AXA group of companies. The registered office of both AXA Insurance UK plc and Swiftcover Insurance Services Limited is 5 Old Broad Street, London, EC2N 1AD. AXA Insurance UK plc is registered in England No. 78950; FSA No. 202312. Swiftcover Insurance Services Limited is registered in England No. 05298352; FSA No. 315373."
  • Thanks for that. I now know that they are economical with the truth, and that I now have an address for the owners of the company.

I am so heartily sick, and fed up to the back teeth with their prevaricating and obstructiveness, that I will be taking the matter further.

I think that the Ombudsman will be my first stop, and I will keep you informed of developments - if any.

You have to go through Swiftcover's own complaints procedure before the Ombudsman can deal with your complaint.
  • Unfortunately, I cannot read pink on white!!

That's not what is says on their support.swiftcover.com/car-insurance-help/cancel-cover/ (you will have to cut & paste this into your browser, and add the http:// or www to the front end of it) which is the one I looked at!

It seems as though they are able to pull up whatever conditions they want to, as and when it suits them!

Once again, I say, "Don't touch this lot with a very long bargepole"

This page does not say that they won't charge you, it simply tells you to call them. The full details are in the policy which you should have read before buying it.

Yes ... in pink on white!!
  • Although I was prepared as a last resort, to acept the £25-00 'admin caherge', the refund (which they say 'can take up to 14 days to process') cost me a further £120-00! And that is on top of the almost 5 hours of my time writing to them and being kept on hold on their unanswered premuim rate number!

Their explanation of this 'legalised theft' was that the cancellation was now outside the 14 days original cancellation period, and would now be charged at £25-00 plus 15% of the original premium!

As I said before, "Don't touch them with a very long bargepole!"
  • I have been with Swiftcover for 3 years and chose them on price.
But we all know that with cheap you get no frills however I am not going to renew my policy with them this year as a matter of principle and am currently looking to find another provider.

I made a claim in Nov 2009 when someone went into the back of my car. Finally in March after constantly having to chase the claims department it was agreed that I could get my car fixed at no fault or loss of no claims to myself - even though the third party admitted liability.

Car repaired and coutesy car provided - all fine .................

UNTIL this week when I was contacted by the claims department to say that my vehicle reg year was incorrect on my policy - my reg is a private reg plate beginning with T but my year of manufacture is 2002 - I know at the time of registering the vehicle I confirmed this but I never printed out my documents as they are filed online.
As I get my car tax on line I have never printed off the details.
Now swiftcover are saying I registered the year as 1996 (T reg!) and that my insurance is invalid unless I pay an extra £50 to amend the policy details.

I have no way of proving that I entered the correct details and that this is a system error (probably caused by HPI check) as it has picked up the wrong year. so have had to pay the extra premium.

The staff were very unhelpful and said that nothing could be done - ie they were not prepared to consider a gesture of goodwill and waver the extra premium or reach a compromise to ensure my future custom.

So lesson learned - I wish I had printed off my original paperwork as I know that I did not enter the year incorrectly to prove I am right and that their systems have altered my details incorrectly.

Do I recommend SWIFT COVER? - no - spend the extra on a premium and get an ethical company that doesnt try to adjust your policy for their financial gain.
