Tesco staff taking the !!!! out of customers

Maybe it's just me, but I'd be a bit peed off (although not enough to complain) if I the sales assistant was chatting with another one about ANY topic, rather than doing their job by processing my shopping!
The fact that they were being insulting is a disgrace, and I'm pleased that rather than by just doing !!!! all, that the OP has at least notified their employers. What they now do with that information is up to them, but at least they're in the picture.
I don't give a fig about the supermarket's reputation (although no doubt they do - it's their lookout - if they care, then action will be taken) but as a few other people have said this is rude and ignorant.
If someone did this on the street it would be bad enough, but you do expect a level of professionalism even off the 'monkeys' (someone elses word, not mine).
We all have a job to do, and expect to be treated professionally, and with basic respect by the customer, and when you're on work time, you're getting paid to give out basic respect & professionalism, regardless of whether you earn £5.50 per hour or £550.00 per hour.
Too many people in this life are prepared to let bad behaviour slip by unchecked, which only begets even worse bad behaviour.
PS - Not to be too pious - I can't even stand watching 'Some mothers do av em' because I can't bear to laugh at clearly someone elses misfortune. I was raised not to laugh at other people like this.
Would the checkout girl still have been laughing if the fatty told her that she had MS, and the medication she was on & her illness was the primary cause for her being overweight, and that all she had to look forward too is more drugs with horrible side effects, eventual slow and awful decline before death?

Do what Freddie does if Customer Service is bad. Turn round and say when they give you the total, actually I do not want it now, and walk out of the shop.0

V-tricky I can't watch Frank Spencer for the same reason-I used to have to leave the room if the family were watching. Used to make me cringe.
Freddy I've done that too. I work with the public-all I ask is when I'm spendingmy hard earned cash is that I'm treated as well as I treat my own customers. Doesn't seem like much to ask.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Customer service these days is rubbish. A lot of shop workers don't care about providing a good service. Maybe 1 out of 10 transactions is enjoyable and carried out in a professional way. Maybe in days gone by (last 40 years) assistants didn't care about their customers but you'd never have guessed. Now it is all too obvious. The sense of pride you get from doing a job well is almost completely absent from this generation. Yes I'm generalising but you know exactly what I mean. Thank heavens for the internet and being able to research the items you want to buy yourself without having to rely on the advice of people who don't know and don't care!Don't grow up. Its a trap!

That's what makes me laugh about members of the public. What makes you think in anyway, that the person who is serving you cares? Do you think they'd be absolutely shocked and stunned to see you walk out of the shop? No, it'd be a great laugh for them.
Why is it that people expect sales assistants to care so much? They work for a huge company with hundreds of branches. They are being paid minimum wage, and probably work part time for 12 hours a week.Amo L'Italia0 -

Perhaps they're all fed up with stroppy customers?"Love you Dave Brooker! x"

From your post Honeydog it would suggest your at least 50 as most people can't remember that much before they were 10 years old.
I do agree with Dave Brooker. If you really only find 1 in 10 transactions carried out in a professional way the way you are with people who work are carrying out these transactions might have something to do with it.
I think many people think things were better when they were younger, it's a trick the mind plays, I imagine this is whats happening here. Many retail workers are young therefore are doing their first job so won't be as good at things as they will be when they get older. But I can't see the teenagers of the 70's/80's were all angelic and did everything perfectly etc etc.
I really think your mind is playing tricks!0 -
Nope I give good service in my job (and previous jobs) and I'm not over 50-not that it would matter if I was. People generally get treated how they expect to be treated. I expect good service and i generally get it....and when I don't I shop elsewhere. There's always somewhere who employs staff with manners and an interest in their work rather than a stroppy oik who doesn't care-and they are the businesses that prosper.
I'm sure I enjoy my work more because I get thanked and take pleasure out of doing a good job more than the oik who is clockwatching from the time they arrive each day. No-one really wants to work but the day passes far more quickly and pleasently if you're doing a good job and been appreciated for it.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
