You've just saved me £187 I think (without checking your spreadsheet!)
  • Hi, thanks for taking the time to post this!

I have an '03 ford mondeo on which the tax will rise a fair bit, the tax runs out on the 1st June. Would you advise renewing the tax for 6mths, then 12 next year or refunding my current tax and getting 12 from now?

    Bit confused by it all!

    Thank again!

I have a BMW M5 5.0lt, the car was registered in 2000, the tax this year is £185, I believe the tax from March 2009 will stay at £185 and only rise in March 2010 to £455, sounds like a good deal for such a fuel efficient car ; ) so cant moan really, well not for another two years ?

However, my more fuel efficient Audi A4 is now taxed at £210 and will rise in 2009 to £260 and then 2010 will be £270, ummmm sounds like the scammy low life tax snatchers have done their sums, still they have to find a way to pay for their sleazy government colleagues caught with their snouts in the public trough.

£455? It should surely stay at around £200, because it's pre-2001, and these cars are not taxed on CO2, but engine size in two bands. Have I missed some announcement?

What is the tax now, and what it will be next year?

    You are perfectly correct :j

I checked the parkers site and read for the post 2003, therefore the economical 12 mpg Panzer will remain at £200 per year, what a bonus, just need a tanker to follow it round and the economy of a small country to fill it up :D

    Hi,

I am one of the unfortunate ones being completely done over by this tax change. Whilst I use the train to travel to work each day paying an extortionate ammount for an appaling and deteriating service, for weekend and leasure use I drive a V6 golf which is fine for me as I only drive around 5000 miles a year. I currently pay £210 a year in road tax which will go up to £440 a year!!  Id sell the car but who exactly is going to want to buy it now unless I sell it at a massive discount no doubt taking a huge loss on a car Ive had less than a year.

Anyway my tax renewal is due in September this year, it seems that I should therefore buy a 6 months renewal and then get the 12 months disc in MArch next year putting off the price rise until March 2010. The only thing Im wandering is that the price rises are quoted to come in in March 2009, therefore wouldnt you actually need to get a disc starting in February 2009 rather than MArch 2009 as the guide suggests?

    Cheers

    Andy
