Sorry to be bearer of bad news but your tax would have also gone up by £5/year.

Hello everyone
Any advice please re: my husband's car.
He drives a Landrover Discovery V8 i ES : 3950 cc.
It was registered - Nov 1999.
Road tax expires on 30.03/08, we received the notivce today from DVA and its £99 for 6 month or £180 for 12 months.
So should we pay the 6 months now or 12 months tax and will it go up in price soon? I don't know what the CO 2 emissions are as it doesn't seem to be stated.
Many thanks meerstar for doing this thread.
PS. Unfortunately he needs a fairly large car with towing power for his work.

Your tax is based on your engine size not emissions as is manufactured before March 2001 so your tax won't jump up next year. Probably will have a £5-£10 increase, not been announced in this year's budget unlike the ones based on CO2 emissions.
Your tax when you renew will be £185/yr or £101.75/6mths now due to this year's budget.

I have a Berlingo Diesel which is 181g for emissions, and my tax disc runs out on 31st March. It is £170 to renew, then £260 next year. This is an outrageous increase, especially as if my car had been registered 6 months earlier that would be £185 instead of £260 for the same car!
Anyway, I have been to the Post Office and renewed from 1st March. So I lose a month and gain £90 when I tax it again at the end of Februry 2009. When I explained this to the puzzled woman in the Post Office she was most impressed.
I am very grateful for the original post on this topic. Not only have I saved about £70, it feels like I have had one over on this thieving government.:D And by the time my tax is due in 2010, I will have sold the car anyway.;)0 -
I only found out about this today, and it's got me panicking a bit
I couldn't find our vehicle on the Parkers link on page 1 of this thread.
We have a Mitsubishi L200 2.5 (2001) and to be quite honest if it's in that horrible G bracket, we are going to have to get rid of it - I can't find £400 for car tax out of my budget for September.
OH is going to get the emissions tested, which might help to work things out a bit.....

I was sent a tax disc reminder which stated a 12 month renewal would be £115 for my 1998 Fiat Punto 1.2. When I renewed the disk today, the lady at the Post Office said that due to the new budget it would be £120. Do trading standards not apply to the DVLA? Surely I've been quoted a price and shouldn't be charged more than that?
Any help greatly appreciated!!!Deposit building continues...0 -
I believe if you look at the form it says something along the lines of 'rate of duty is correct at time of printing, but may be different if changed in the budget, please check'.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)
Debt free success date: 14.8.2006 :j0
