Oh well just checked mine and it is going up £50.00 from March 2009, the co's are 186. But luckily my tax runs out on 28th February 2009. So I am keeping my fingers crossed that I qualify for the £210.00 still when I renew it then.

Although I couldn't figure it out at all on Parkers site as it gave the totally wrong payment for this year

Thanks for the original post; I was planning on taking 12 months tax starting from 1 September 2008, but having read this I guess I'll take 6 months and live with resenting paying the 10% administrative charge for the 6 month tax disc!

its just said on news24 that car tax for landy type cars reg after 2001 is going up massively, does anyone know anything about this? we have a landy90 as we live in a very rural area and need to go off rd to get to our proerty. were not farmers nor are we rich , i earn £6 an hr. if it goes up this much i've have to pack in work, its costing me a fortune to get to work as it is with diesel prices.

Cars registered after March 2001 have their tax calculated on their CO2 emissions. The cost of cars which are environmentally unfriendly (4x4's, big engined cars) are having large price hikes each year on road tax. I think in 2010 or something the price is gonna be £400 for 2 litres or more, something like that! The figures are published on the internet.

What can you do:

• Sell your landy and buy one made before 2001. Tax will be £195 which will probably rise each year in the budge as well.

• Sell your landy and buy a more economical cheap car. Do you really live in an area where you have to engage four wheel drive and have to have chunky tyres to get to your house?

• Sell your house and live near the road.:p

Complain. Its the only way. Theres an election coming up, you can voice your concern there as well.

Check your C02 emissions on your V5C/logbook (found in Section 4) against the table on http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/Budget2008/DG_073093 to find out what next year's price will be.

Thanks for that Flutterby - all the sites i.e honestJohn whatcar etc were saying that my car would be band F @£195 which is less than I am paying now :rotfl:

By the looks of the .gov site I will be a band J @£260

My question is how do I shoe horn 3 kids (who all by law need to be in a car seat) myself and DH into a smaller car?:rolleyes: :rotfl:

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MAN WHO TOOK THE GOV TO COURT BECAUSE THEY PUT HIS 3.0 LTR 4X4 MITSU IN A HIGH CAR TAX BRACKET, HE REFUSED TO PAY IT BECAUSE HE ACTUALLY GOT THE VEHICLE TO RUN ON LESS EMISSIONS THAN A 1.2LTR FIESTA ? THATS BEEN HUSHED UP! - All this new STEALTH CAR TAX on us now not so well off anymore has been planned for years, FACT IS This GOV do not want anyone to have any savings! According to the GOV, a car is a nessesity! but if you are priced off the road, that has been maintained using less than a third of the current car tax income, then its time to look after our own money rather than let this LEGALISED MAFIA TYPE GOV take all our Money, I SHALL BE LOOKING AT REGISTERING MY BIG BAD 2.0L TREE FEEDING! MPV at in Holland! There are no rules about how long a foreign vehicle can stay in the UK thank god! As for the new Show room tax, well lets not worry too much about that because nobody will be able to afford a new car anyway, and if you can then simply catch the Eurostar to mainland europe and buy one over there, SAVE A FORTUNE! then bring it back and put some beam deflectors on it and say cheers to EUROPE while you drink your £75 champers from France because it was cheaper, using a fraction of the enormous amount of money you save by buying from anywhere but the UK! - On a last note!
