I would never buy anything from Comet after a bad experience with a TV some years ago.
They will always find an excuse not to refund whilst somewhere like Argos or Asda refund without question.
Recently bought a DAB Radio from Argos which proved very fiddly to change programme and I obtained a refund immediately.

    Me too.
    Will never buy from Comet.
    Apalling customer service.
Assistants with very poor knowledge .
Refused to refund me for a scanner which did not work, after I took it back after two days.
Told me it was up to me to get an engineer to test it.
In my opinion a terrible company to deal with.

However the story is that I originally ordered a Dell 1525 Laptop and paid via Credit Card. When I got my confirmation and Order status details it said that it was going to take 5 weeks for my order:eek:. So I rang up and canceled after doing research on what other laptops were available.

I hate to tell you this, but I ordered the Inspiron 1525 on the 25th of Feb (late in the evening) and they gave me an estimated delivery date of the 26th of March! However the laptop actually arrived on the 10th of March - less than 2 weeks after I ordered it.

Hi, I have not been able to read the whole thread but I have skimmed through it. Just thought I should share my experience with a laptop I bought from Comet and a stuck pixel.

I bought a HP G6065EA from the Comet in Arnold, Nottingham and got it home to find a single stuck pixel. I took it back to the Comet at Castle Marina Retail Park and the exchanged it there and then, all it took was a 4 minute call for them to authorize it and I even managed to get a printer for half price for the trouble.

Sorry to hear about your experience, I feel that the policies around pixel tolerance are pretty unfair as they are so annoying.

On the other hand I will never buy from Comet again, I only went there because they had a good price on the laptop and I did not want to wait for delivery. I have had some other problems with the laptop and HP in particular and neither HP or Comet have been any help at all on the matter.

I'm not sure how ISO has a bearing, you'd have to be advised beforehand surely ??

I realise manufacturers have policys relating to dead pixels, the point here is that the buyer wasnt warned about that, he was not warned that he could reasonably expect up to 5 dead pixels, therefore I believe sales of goods act is your friend and that is does not say in there IIRC unless some random ISO statement says this good is within tolerance

So Millionaire, whats happened, did you hear back??

an another note, have you been in Comet lately most of the staff are "kids", hence my original advice to call customer services and speak to a supervisor, last time we had issues with Comet the staff were not very knowlegable but the manager fortunately was

tangent but I'm actually suprising Dixons, Comet et al are still in business, you generally get better advice buying online, can look at others experience on site like amazon, I really struggle to see what Comet still have going for them other than for people who need a good "right now!!" or want to see it before they buy it.

I was not warned about pixel tolerance at all when I bought the laptop and there is no information about it around the store. They never seem to make any effort to inform you of anything that you need to expect.

Totally agree with you here, although the kids were more helpful towards me and also more polite, it was the older members of staff that have been causing me problems.

Maybe it is just because I am nearer to their age group or something. In both stores I went in the younger members of staff were very helpful and tried to help me wherever then could and also seemed more open to offers.

Just a note to anyone who is going to go to a Comet near Nottingham, I found that Castle Marina is a lot better than the Arnold store. They were more helpful, more open to offers and generally more polite towards me, even so I do not think I will be using Comet again unless there is some super deal on something I wont have problems with and need to use their customer services.

It does seem that John Lewis is the place to shop, from what I understand/have heard they have much better customer service and will price match

Hmm not my personal experience but everyone has their own experience. It took me weeks and writing to the CEO's office of JL just to get them to price match according to their own rules. The customer service was appalling no matter who I spoke to. I was even at one point told that they weren't going to even listen to me as it was resolved as far as they were concerned. Personally I put JL customer service as not that much better than Comet/DSG. So I'd definitely be prepared to put an awful lot of effort in order to get them to price match. It's not a simple process.

    UPDATE:

Well didn't have much luck today. Comet were supposed to ring me to advise whether Toshiba have authorized a replacement or not.

Anyway waited till around 2.30 and decided to ring Comet customers services regards the call, was put through to the store and the girl that I originally took the laptop back to return.

She told me that Toshiba hadn't got back to them and that she will ring them now and then ring me back.
    >Forward 5 hrs to 7.30pm and no callback from the girl.

So rang customers services again and they spoke to the manager of the store and apparently the girl didn't mention this to the manager thus never called Toshiba.

Spoke to manager who said he will go and check the faxes for authorization.

Rang me back advising that Toshiba are now closed and they won't know till tomorrow afternoon as nothing in the faxes and that due to staff issues at Comet they will be too busy to sort it out in the morning.
