A small update ...
I was in John Lewis on Oxford Street (London) yesterday and thought I would pop by their toiletries department to have a look. Apparently, a helpful sales lady informed me, JL have stopped stocking toothpastes since about 3 weeks ago.
Oh crumbs!0 -

He might do. I was very sweaty as a teenager, even though I washed regular and used deodorant every day. I was banned from removing my shoes in the same room as other family members. We had a touring caravan, and on holidays my shoes had to live outside
Thankfully I'm not sweaty now and my shoes don't smell anymore! Here I go again on my own....0 -

Thankfully I'm not sweaty now and my shoes don't smell anymore!I've gone to great lengths to buy non-smelly deodorant and encourage him to wash and use it, because I know he doesn't like the fact that most of his friends stink of Lynx. But there are times when I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle! And summer's coming: his blazer will announce itself to the world from halfway down the garden path (it lives in the porch, not allowed in the house!)
Update: today I bought mint and lemon, mint and apple (what he's had until now) and mint and watermelon toothpaste in Boots, buy 3 get 1 free. And went into Lush and decided that even when they get the toothpaste in, at £2.50 for a titchy titchy tube, he can live without it, although I may get a tube for his Christmas stocking! Will keep looking for not-at-all-minty toothpaste, but no rush now as he is well supplied!
Many thanks for everyone's help, I knew I'd get lots of ideas from you chaps (and there is surely a gap in the market for anyone wanting to set up in business!). The doggy toothpaste does sound very tempting, Toothsmith, I may pop into the vet next time I'm passing!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Euthymol - tastes like TCP
Elgydium - tastes like antiseptic
Retardex - tastes like the wash the hygenist has
All available in Boots et al, but at a cost of about £8  :eek:Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Hi,
It's a simple question: Are cheap(er) toothpastes as good as the top brands?
For example, how would the Asda own brand "total care - stripe - with antibacterial action" @ 58p for 100ml compare with "Colgate Total Fresh Stripe" @ £1.68 for 100ml? It's not the smartprice, really cheap version, yet it's still a hell of a lot cheaper...

Probably.
The only thing I'd be worried about is the abrasiveness of them. I imagine this would only be a real problem in the cheaper 'whitening' toothpastes though.
Colgate & co do have expensive advertising budgets that have to be paid for somehow! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Look for the active ingredients - these are the ones that matter. If they are the same amounts (should be sodium flouride or something) then they should be fine.
As toothsmith says with the well known brands you are not paying more for the actual toothpaste, but for the advertising.
I normally use boots own toothpaste. Looks alright although I'm going for my dentist checkup in a month - I'll let you know then.0 -

Absolutely worth comparing the ingredients, many cheaper brands will have lower fluoride levels I've noticed0
