Hi, I've been on various different diets over the years and have found weightwatchers to be the only that works for me.
Suppose it depends what you are like really, if you're prepared to completely change what you eat then I'd say there are better diets out there than weighwatchers. But in my view, weightwatchers was the only diet I've found that allowed me to eat EXACTLY what I wanted to, just had to make it fit the points for the day.
For instance, there's not many diets in which a McChicken Sandwich from McDonalds would be allowed, but I can't get away from the odd bit of junk food (or chocolate) it's my vice...and being on weightwatchers meant I could eat one, but then had to be very careful with what I ate for the rest of the day. I lost 3 stone in about 18 months, and now it's all back on again(it was about 4 years ago)
I've also tried Closer Diet online, which I'm led to believe is the same as Tescos...I didn't really get anywhere with this, as the 'shopping list' they do for you which covers all the meals you need was ridiculously expensive, I never even bought 1 weeks worth, just priced it all up on tesco.com and it came to 80 odd pounds! For one person for a week! Think it could be cheaper if you were prepared to eat the same meal everyday, but where's the fun in that.Aiming for that elusive 'debt free' by Christmas 2012

Sorry but if you put the weight back on - its not worked.
Ive kept to between a size 10 and a 12 since I went to weightwatchers 10 years ago, from over 12 stone I now usually stick to around 9and a half stone to 10 and a bit.
I wont allow myself to get fat again so I keep at what I learned, Im not as strict as I was when I was on the diet but so many of the rules have stayed with me so I keep pretty stable - just very now and then I need to pull the books out and do the programme for a week or two. Like I should be doing now as I gave up smoking and Im slowly creeping out of all my size 10s0 -

I see where you're coming from - but it did work. I just had a massive change of circumstances. I kept the weight off while I still lived at home, but about 2 years later I went off to university, where eating healthy and sticking to weightwatchers wasn't exactly high on my lists of things to do  . I'm getting back on it again now I've finished university, hoping to do it without going back to the classes, just using the old books etc. We'll see though, the classes really helped me.
Well done for quitting smoking, I've got to face that lovely task soon. Don't worry too much about putting a little bit of weight on while you're quitting, fight one thing, then fight the otherGood luck

I think whatever diet/club you try works, as long as you stick to it forever!!!
I lost 2 stone at WW to get to be a gold member, but i just like eating too much. Once I was a gold member, i stopped going to meetings, maybe going once a month for a little while - and very soon got back up to my normal 11 1/2 stone - and stayed there.
I think everyone has a natural weight they're meant to be, and this is mine.:beer:0 -
I lost a stone and a half in about 8 months with WW and I did find it worked as the weight stayed off. I didn't writing everything down all the time though and I found it hard to keep track of the points as my husband was doing most of the cooking at the time too.
I have just had a baby and I am breastfeeding so happy to be plump at the moment (well it is the only time you can be without feeling guilty!), although now I am back at work it would be nicer if I could wear some of my favourite clothes again so starting to think about cutting down a little. However getting to WW meetings and paying for them aren't really an option at the moment, and I don't think the online club will work for me to be honest.
I have just started reading "French Women Don't Get Fat" which is about how to still enjoy food, a non-diet book really. I am finding it really good actually and have started applying one or two of the principals which are pretty simple but apply to my lifestyle.

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the Health board, where it should get more replies. Hi, I wonder if anyone can advise me.
I lost 5 stone 10 years ago, through just watching what I ate, and exercising madly.
10 years and 2 children later, 2 stone has crept back on, and I seem tohave lost all willpower to do it on my own. I also don't have time to exercise as much as I used to, although I manage 2 runs a week.
I tried slimming world, but I put 4 pounds on.
I want to try weight watchers, but don't know whether to do it online, or to try and get to meetings. Meetings would be difficult to get to, as I have a 2 year old with me in the daytime, and my husband gets home late, so getting to evening meetings would be difficult too.
I would like to know whether it is possible to do it online, or would I struggle with motivation without getting weighed weekly. Has anyone done it successfully?
Please help

Hi Karen,
I'm a bloke, it's bad enough 'going on a diet' that doesn't consist of beer and pizza (man diet) let alone risking the humiliation of mates finding out about any weight-watchers meeting! I didn't risk the meetings.
Basically I got the stuff off of ebay (points calculator wheel, books, etc). To be honest the formula for calculating points can easily be found online (see wikkipedia!) so as long as you know your points total you don't even need to pay any money out.
I managed to lose about 2 and 2/12 stone both times. And for me here is the problem. Willpower. For one reason or another both times my diet changed from the healthy points controlled weight watcher diet slipping back into easy food such as takeaways and the like. And the weight went back on. I personally had to follow the points 100% strictly.
So I guess it's down to you. I wonder if the meeting would have motivated me to keep at it, or whether I would have found excuses not to attend the meetings anyway.
Not very helpful I suppose!0 -

I would definately try and attend meetings as i found the support invaluable, if you talk to the leader she may well let you take your son with you if he can sit still.
If you don't think he will sit through a meeting you would be able to take him for your weigh in.
