Not without consent or a court order they cant!

Incorrect, I've had an interview under caution out of the blue with them sat with several years of mine and my then ex partners bank statements. They didn't have consent/court order. They turned up at my door that day, no prior warning. The statements were for both of our accounts (seperate) going back at least 3 years. They were questioning why a large sum of money was paid into the account which was for a vehicle which was sold then the finance repaid with the money.
One day I might be more organised...........

Oh I am so sorry for questioning one of the "Forum Police"

    :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Question me all you want. It was just a friendly suggestion to be aware of what you are questioning first.

Far to many people jump on others and are quick to comment without actually reading posts correctly.

Nice night, nice night :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Wow seriously

I guess if I sit and think about it they are *immune* from the DPA when t comes to an employer supplying info so why should the bank be any different.

For crying out loud. Why not make a no-names call to the benefits people and say "mate won on the lottery, does he/she need to declare?".

    Easy isn't it?

I asked about the legality and how they obtained the statements, the response I received was

'We just ask the bank, as we are the DWP they must provide them if we are investigating any case, your account was 'flagged' because a large sum of money was paid in'

So that then leaves it sort of obvious to me that they do monitor accounts in some way or another.

Well like I explained we'd sold the vehicle because my partner had lost his job but needed the money to pay the finance before we could tranfer the ownership, upon looking through the statements (why they didn't do that before I don't know!!!) they seen the money was transfered into my partners account then on to the finance company via cheque. I did offer that they could have what we got for the vehicle if they wanted to give us what we'd paid for it (which was several thousand more) but they declined my offer and left basically. I got a letter later stating they were taking no further action.

I cant decide if I agree with this or not (not what you're saying I mean what they did).

Whilst I can see that it can potentially stop fraud is it really the case where we have no privacy??

I do remember once paying in a cheque for £15k and having the 3rd degree from the cashier in the bank!!

Looks like we are heading back to the under the matress days!!

You my love need to read what you have posted.
Then you and your pals who police this site should then not jump on people and leave it to the boardguides.

you *my love* were the one doing the jumping

    flowers,

I really don't understand your problem here.

MSE is about legally getting the best value, and the Benefits Board is about legally maximising benefit entitlement. All tigtag02 has done is commented on a post that was advocating potentially criminal activity.

Regular posters on the Benefits Board spend a great deal of their own time helping those who come here asking for advice. They give this time, advice and information in the hope that it will make someone's life a little easier when they are going through a difficult time. It is understandable that those that take the time to do this are unimpressed when people come along planning to defraud the system, distracting from the true purpose of the Benefits Board.

It saddens me very much that you are choosing to jump on those that have previously helped you. Perhaps you could reflect on your own contribution to the Benefits Board, before attacking those who are trying to help?
    Gone ... or have I?
  • If I'm not mistaken it seems some posters are assuming others are up to something when all they are probably doing is just answering the question. It's like you all don't trust each other.
