Can I join? This is exactly what I need; I've just got back from uni and have two roomfuls of stuff now! Id like to pay off my Nationwide OD, so call it £250 as my target.

This is one of my first posts, and certainly my first challenge! Can't wait, just put up six books, but this is my first time ebaying. I hope people don't rely too much on buyers stats...but I think that might be wishful thinking!
Aim - BUYING A HOUSE  by November 2013!

Odette - I sold all my uni books last summer - got about half the value back which was great, as you know, they go out of date so quick!!
You will make your target easily I think

This was the worst week on Ebay for me since I started 6 mths ago. Cheap listing days and I are over! Last night sold 3 of 39 - £11 profit (before fees!)
Am going to try BIN for this week and see how I go
    LBM Feb 2010 £62,700 Total Debt Jan 11 [STRIKE]£49,403.84[/STRIKE] £47,530.32.
    (CC/LOAN = [STRIKE]36,378.98[/STRIKE] 35668.47. O/D = [STRIKE]1255.32[/STRIKE] 1212.35/[STRIKE]1999.78[/STRIKE] 1934.52, BUS = [STRIKE]9769.76[/STRIKE] 8714.98)
    Challenge = Debt at 31/01/12 = £25k. 2011 Payments = £1,944.19/£24,403.84

There is no point in negative thought, it takes up time and energy which could be used in a positive, happy way!

Hi Odette, your target sounds completely realistic and I'm sure you'll find ebay great fun, especially as you watch the bids pour in! I set myself a target of £360 to pay off my Next Directory and I now only have around £140 to go. I've also been selling bits and pieces at my work, as we have a "For Sale" distribution list. I have also thought about advertising in the scot-ads because its free... as Tesco's say.. Every Little Helps! ;)

You have been lucky so far..buyers are getting much more savvy nowadays and you might run into problems. Any tracking or insurance is only for the sellers benefit, it does not assist the buyer at all. If an item fails to arrive all the buyer has to do is start a paypal chargeback and get a full refund from you, even without your agreement.

Forcing a buyer to go to a chargeback means it is more likely they will leave a negative, at least if you refund upfront, through gritted teeth if necessary the buyer feels better towards you and is less likely to leave a negative.

Just remember buyers can get a full refund via paypal which is taken from your account unless a seller can prove delivery..there is no escape clause or get out from that, that is how it works.

Have to agree with Soolin. There is absolutely no point putting a statement about not being responsible for the item once it is posted..because you are, until it is delivered safely to the buyer.

I use standard post for RM and Special Delivery or trackable courier for items over £36. If an item gets lost I refund the buyer and claim off the RM. Otherwise Paypal would refund the money for me!

Another one here for the challenge. Think I'll start with something relatively achievable like £150, simply because I reckon all the stuff I have to sell is going to go for about 50p!

A daft question to the experts though, is there anything you wouldn't bother listing, or do you stick everything on ebay, regardless?

With low value items, do a search on ebay for similar items (tick the box on the left for Completed Listings) and then you'll see if any similar things have sold and what they went for.
You could also group low value items together and sell them as a job lot. This sometimes works better than trying to sell them individually.

  • Don't have time to read all 42 pages so not sure if anyone has mentioned this here goes... On cheap listing days I list blank listings i.e. title to be listed, description to be listed, do this on a 10 day listing and take the next ten days to upload pics and fill in description, this way I list 50 items on cheap listing days and take 5 a day over the next 10 days to fill in details !!! Not sure if this helps but it's my own hair brain scheme...got 25 items ending tonight it's looking like £100 so far not bad considering they only cost me 5p each to list £1.25 in total, not to happy about FVF or paypal fees if anyone finds a way to avoid these let me know
Busy mum of 3, so if my posts don't make sense or ask a silly question be patient:rotfl:

Personally I avoid the listings that haven't been finished when I'm looking for items - It might be best to do all your listings on Turbo Lister when you have the time, then load them all on the cheap days.

I only put the statement as some buyers blaim me when something goes missing, once it's at the Post Office I'm trusting them to pass it on. I don't have problems since putting tha statement and my final prices are as good as before - When people stop bidding on my stuff, then I'll re-write it!But I have regular customers and my feedback's speeding along

I think it's time for more listing, ta ta
