I need help with my Sky remote control

hey all,
sorry to jump on this thread but its the only place i can find with a similar problem to what i have.
Iv bought the universal remote from logitech, i think its called the harmony 1000.
Well i set it all up fine used it and it work great but for some reason the picture quality on the tv is really bad.
Now i think this is because its stuck on the tv mode rather than the sky mode. If i remember when it was on tv the picture was bad before and then when i pressed the sky button the picture would flicker then become really clear and be on sky mode.
Anyway.... i cant get it off tv mode by pressing the sky button even on the original sky remote, everything else works fine e.g. volume channel buttons etc etc but no longer the tv mode button.
I have tried reseting the remote with the direct code but no change.
Should i try the 30 second reset option?
I hope i have made everything clear, any help would be great.
Cheers,

When in TV mode the box usually reverts to composite video (PAL), when in Sky mode if set in the display settings on the box it will be in RGB mode.
It could be that for some reason the picture setting has changed from RGB to PAL on the Sky box, just a case of going into the Sky menu and display options and setting it back to RGB. Also if you have changed SCART sockets on the TV it may remain in composite mode even with RGB selected and most TVs only offer RGB on some and not all the SCART inputs, the cable could have been changed for an cheap non-fully wired cable, or the cable may not be fully connected or some of the pins have got pushed in.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

thanks for the quicky reply, i have tried alot of things and im sure when i was in the settings last night it was set to RGB but im not 100%, il double check later. when setting up the universal remote it didnt ask for things like that so i guess when i activate the remote and it turned everything on it didnt include that option.
thanks again for your help. il post back when iv tried it.
Cheers,

My Sky remote still isn't working, I think I may phone Sky to see if they can help shed any light.0

Hi,
you're not having much luck are you?
What if you were to try your remote on your neighbour's box, that you know is working, and neighbour's remote, that you know is working, on your box. You could maybe even switch over boxes, bit of a bother, but could help find problem.
Good luck.0 -

Gee, I was wondering where you were!! I am not having any luck for about the last month or so but that is what happens every year in the run up to my birthday.
I might try the remote on my parents Sky box and their remote on ours.
Thanks!0 -

The remote works my parents sky box so the problem must be with my Sky box. I am going to phone Sky shortly and see what they say.0 -
I telephoned Sky and the person who answered said they would pass my call to the relevant department. The second person said that they would send out an engineer to have a look at it and that would cost me £65. I said I would rather cancel as this box has never worked properly. She then said she would pass my call to the relevant department. Therefore I was then passed from the second representative to the third. He asked what was the problem so I explained and he then asked what his colleague had said and again I explained. He said that he could send out an engineer and it would only cost me half the price, £32.50 to which I said no. He then eventually said that he would send out an engineer with a brand new box for free since I had been a customer with them for a long time.
The engineer is coming next week with new box and new remote for free. :j :money:0 -

Excellent.
Not personally known it not to work to get free call-out / replacement. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc...
