Tesco "10 items or less" checkout.

What is the point of having "10 items or less" checkout, when the staff make no effort to enforce it?!
This woman two people infront of me, in the "10 items or less" queue, had 22 items (mainly clothing) in her basket, each requiring the security tag taking off. To make matters worse, she then held up the entire queue by trying to ask the guy behind her if he was paying in cash for his two items, then he could go infront of her (i.e. she was aware she had too much stuff in her basket), but her english was so bad, it took 4 attempts for him to understand.
The wet drip at the check out just sat there looking gormless, and was being mentally lynched by a queue of 15 people for not asking this woman to go and join one of the "i have lots of shopping" queues!
Ohh, I feel better now after venting about that!

Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Its always the same at any supermarket, Baskets Only" means baskets, not a half filled trolly, the operators dont want any hassle.0

Even more annoying is the fact that it should say "10 items or fewer", not "less".0

I got sent away from the "baskets" checkout once, because I had a trolley. I had an 18-month old and a brand new baby in the trolley. And ONE item. But the SA just didn't get it. :rolleyes:0 -

Gosh, that's so mean!! Where do they employ these numpties!?!? I know it's not the greatest job in the world, but still! They might as well TRY and enjoy it.sarahg1969 wrote: »Even more annoying is the fact that it should say "10 items or fewer", not "less".
Indeed, you're right. Perhaps it did say that, but I'm sure it was "less" not "fewer". I shall look next time I call in!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

lol, makes me smile when I see that.
It annoys me in Asda and Sainsbury's when over the loud speaker you hear "This is a colleague announcement" !!!!!! it's a staff announcement. Toeing the corporate line goes a bit far sometimes!.....0 -
If you are behind someone who has more that the ten items then count them out loud as they go through. Get to ten and then shout
"Wrong Queue, Wrong Queue"It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -

Grrr. They have signs up saying if you need help, you should ask a "colleague". How would my colleagues be able to help me in Asda??!!
They are NOT my colleagues. They are each other's colleagues.
Pinkshoes - I wasn't suggesting you'd got the fewer/less thing wrong. You are quite right that it does say "less" in many of the supermarkets. I believe M&S get it right, though.0 -

"Wrong Queue, Wrong Queue"
lol I so wish I had done that! I counted them, as I was curious as to how many she'd got in there, and she was blatently aware she had more than the queue allowed... but sadly yelling "wrong queue" at her would have been a waste of breath, as her English was limited... She was quite an odd-bod! Lot of customers giving each other sidewards glances and smirking.Sarahg1969 wrote: »Pinkshoes - I wasn't suggesting you'd got the fewer/less thing wrong. My mum is an English teacher, and is forever pointing these things out to me :rotfl: I was kicking myself for not spotting that in the supermarket then imagining my mum saying "that should be fewer, not less... must contact customer services" (SO embarassing, but thankfully I live 160 miles away now, so it's a less frequent occurance).Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

"Wrong Queue, Wrong Queue"
I did once say something to the woman infront with atleast 30 things in her trolley. She insisted that she was in the right queue, as she had 3 of each, therefore it was actually only 10
I tried my best to resist hitting her, and turned to my eldest & explained the importance of learning to count properly at school.

you DIDN't speak to her so how can you say she was aware she had too many items!
how does it delay everyone else in the q if she let the guy behind her go first, remember you and the q are behind the guy in the first place!
if her english was that bad, in your opinion, maybe she would have had difficulty reading the sign 'less then 10'
instead of slagging ppl off why did you not try and talk to her and maybe help her understand, what is the world coming to?0
