Oh my gosh. Really?
I'll never understand some people.
I like the term basket rage though.

I've never been a "check-out chick", but I guess if someone blatantly had more than 10 items, I'd risk the abuse, point to the "10 items or fewer*" sign, and politely ask them to join the appropriate queue. I don't mind getting abuse from people who are in the wrong. They're probably just angry at their own numptiness. Perhaps I'd be nice and tell them to move as soon as they joined the queue, rather than letting them get to the front, and THEN sending them away.
*MUST call into Tesco again and see what it actually says!!

If you like that one, check out M&S at the moment. They have a sign promoting 4 for 3 on all pot deserts! Now really that shouldn't be a mistake that should get past the proof reader. I think it should be potted too but I could be wrong. And free from artificial colourings and flavourings (or colours and flavours) right? Overall a pretty poor sign.0 -
In the Land of Misplaced Apostrophes, nothing is impossible and little is surprising. I like the statue[near Westminster Pier]with this:'On wings of Victory? I bare you aloft'. Some are fun, others, as seen above, are sad and grim for the loss of joy/pride in ANY language and grammar, not to mention its absence from the classroom.

What i don't get is those that want to take lots of items through such tills, I hate those small tills and you have no room to pack everything, surely the bigger tills are better unless your buying just a few items????0

what about those who count out the 10 items, put a divider down and then lay down another 10 items and so on? ive seen that done and i dont care if theyre shopping for a friend or neighbour, an overflowing basket or trolley KEEP OUT OF THE EXPRESS LANES.There's someone in my head, but it's not me0

I used to be a 'check out chick' and if I was working on the 10 items or less checkout I would question those with more items. I wasn't over the top but if someone was obviously taking the pee with a load more than ten I'd 'inform' them loudly and very politely as soon as I'd noticed. There were a few who tried the 'six packs of something count as one item' line but I would tell them if it comes up as six lines on the receipt it's six items. One time we had a BOGOF on packs of nappies and a bloke was trying to get through the 'ten or less' till with a trolley packed full of them plus nine other items!I would if I could but I can't so I won't!0

I was in ASDA yesterday and went to the 10 items queue (with 10 items I would add:D ). The check out woman glared at me, counted very single item on the conveyor belt before accepting that I was allowed to use that queue
I hate being held up by people with too many items, but to have them counted out to me just in case I'd gone over seemed a bit much! She did it to everyone that came to her till, including a guy with 3 itemsNobody I'd rather be0 -

I have enjoyed this thread!! I wonder if your checkout assistant is helping the general public to count.... after all is she is counting every ones items, then someone with a trolly of 22 is less likely to arrive and upset all those behind them.
In general, who is at fault, the public for not being able to count or take notice of signs or the supermarket for not enforcing the policy?
