I agree. Let's just hope that the overpriced houses drop dramatically in price so that our deposits will actually be a 50% deposit (if not 100%!).Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
We have just upped our deposit to around £51,000+. Hoorah and roll on next payday!0

The last month has been interesting for us, but overall in AUD our savings haven't changed.
The good and the bad:
+ Saved above our target
+ AUD went down against the GBP and JPY
+ Opened and filled 2 ISA accounts (one each) for the year
- Shares went down a little
- Sent a one-off £4k to OH's parents to help out. Not a bad thing of course, but bad for the bank balance!0 -

I have finally changed cars from a thirsty hot hatch, to a deisel Fiesta. Its saving me a packet, my motoring costs have halfed. I'm aiming to get £25k by this time next year.
I have had a few really good months, and despite the cost of xmas we've reached the £25k target much earlier than expected.
I don't think its the right time to buy yet, so the new target is £30k by August.0 -
I too have been finding my targets easier to reach than I thought which makes me think that there is probably a big bill about to come up! (Most probably car related!)
Anyhow, I also got my pay rise back dated which has been a huge help.
So this should bring my deposit up to £15750, however Im out of contract in April and have no job lined up, so could be looking at living off my deposit. Ah!Current mortgage 133k
Purchase price 171k
Fixed deal ends sept 2019
Current repayments 640pm
Savings approx 60k0 -

Well done on your target! You could start putting your money into virtual pots eg deposit, fees, moving costs, stamp duty, furniture ... and on it goes! And don't forget your emergency fund... at least 3 months wages. Thats what we are doing. Good luck!£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
What a great thread! I would like to join in if I may?
A bit about me - I'm nearly 31 years old and currently still living at home with my parents, due to being young and stupid with money. I landed myself in a Trust Deed for my sins. However on Monday I make my final payment which means I can then start saving for the house of my own I have been dreaming about for the past few years!! :j
My plan is to save for the next 3 years at least and open the following savings accounts:-
1. Open a fixed term (3 years) ISA putting away the max of £300 a month. (April)
2. Open a monthly saver and put away at least £100 a month. (March)
(£400 is the amount I am currently paying to the TD)
I'm a qualified Nursery Nurse, working full time, I have a 2nd job as a babysitter, I have worked for a babysitting agency for nearly 4 years and although the pay is minimum wage it is easy money and soon builds up. I usually get at least 2 or 3 jobs a month if not more. I frequently babysit for 5 families from my full time job and I get a bit more from them than what the agency pays. With all my babysitting money I intend to put 1/4 into my holiday fund, 1/4 into my car fund and 1/2 into the monthly saver towards my house.
My target is to save £25,000
I look forward to reading everyones progress and joining in with the chat.0 -
Hi Guys, can i join please?
A bit about me i am 30 yrs old, living with my parents after both making some mistakes with money and going into higher education to train as a nurse. Anyway have now finally got myself sorted and have just opened an isa i know you should'nt save when you've still got debts to pay off but need something to aim for. I would love to move out by the end of the year but i know that is quite unrealistic but i can dream, i would love to move into a 3 bed new build with off road parking.MBNA 0% ends 10/04/2020 £15843

Good luck lincs1205 with saving for your house.
Nice to see I'm not the only 30+ year old still living at home with my parents!!0 -
Hello, another person wishing to join here!!
Im 22 and i live with my boyfriend in a flat in a really cheap area, the south eastWere both trying to save for a deposit for a house but finding it quite tricky to do so. My boyfriend works full time in a good job, but i however work about 5 times a month on minimum wage due to me just finishing my degree in january and finding it hard to get anything full time, so its just him saving solo at the moment.
In total we have £1100 odd put away at this moment. I havent a clue what kinda figure we should be aiming to achieve, i would like to set ourselves a goal of a number to work towards. I would like to save more a month but i feel its easy to say when its only him thats saving! The good part is that we have never been in debt in our lives, we are quite sensible with money so we should find it easy.....or maybe not ha.
To the two 30+'s: my brother still lives at home and hes 36 this year. Think its more common than people think.0
