S long as you constantly save more each month, it builds up... it takes patience though... your talking of saving for a couple years lol.

Taking wife out for valentines day meal..... but me being frugal using tesco clubcard deals for food and will buy a bottle wine...

Still can be romantic on a budget :P
  • I've made a start on my house savings, its not much but every little bit helps. In my first week of being debt free I have managed to save £35 from my babysitting towards my house deposit! :j
I just need to open a savings account for it to go into now!!

Hi everyone and well done with the savings!!

Well, we've finally hit our 100k target!!! :j :T Its been hard work and we've made sacrifices but its been worth it! We are going to keep it up though and any all savings will now go into a pot for house buying fees, removal fees, furniture and the such. We hope this gets up to around 15K before the middle of the year. Any extra could then go into our emergency fund or deposit.

Sales are going well this year on Amazon. I've listed some rare vinyl so hopefully that will shift. I've just sold a really naff CD for a fiver.:rotfl:

Also, had a payment for £62 from quidco this week. It all adds up!

Had a problem with my A&L 8.1% current account. They sent a large SO twice sending me overdrawn and I've racked up nearly £100 of fees and other SO haven't gone. Its causing me a lot of stress but A&L have admitted its their fault and said it would be sorted in 5 working days which have now passed without its being sorted. Useless.

I haven't gone part time at work yet. Still waiting for a decision. I'm exhausted so can't wait. Also, i'm sure my car is due for a full service soon. I might post over on the motoring board and see when they should have thier first one. They are expensive tho!

Last night we compiled a house 'wish list'.. you know... 3 bedrooms, off street parking type thing. We are going to visit our prefered location next month and start tracking a few properties to see whats happening. Can you do this on property bee?? I think you have to download something.. is it safe? thanks.

  • Hi, I like to lurke in all these forums so I thought it was about time I wrote my first post!

I'm 23 and I currently rent with my boyfriend who's 26. My boyfriend is notoriously disorganised with his money whereas I am the complete oppersite.

Since we moved in I have, at his request, taken control of our combined finances and in 3 months have paid off £1,100 of his £2,000 credit card debt which he has had for about a year.

Well yesterday he came home with a lovely suprise, he has been given a £1,500 bonus and a £300 a month payrise! (he does work very hard) So now it's not only bye bye credit card, but we now also have extra income each month.

So now my new mission is to save, save, save! We won't be looking to buy a place of our own for at least 2 years for various reasons but i want to have some deposit saved so we're ready to do so when the time comes. Also we're planning on taking a month off work and going on a big holiday (kind of a mini round the world trip!) next summer as neither of us ever had gap years etc, so we're also saving like mad for this!

I'm planning on saving the following per month:

£250 (Boyfriends pay increase after tax)
£150 (what we used to pay towards his credit card each month)

plus any 'extra' money we get each month as i now now we can live comfortably on own basic wage. As we both have oppertunity to do over time and work night shifts for which we get paid a premium this can be anything up to about £1,000 a month!

Anyway I just wanted a place to write all that down really so i can keep track of how much we've saved! I've got an ISA which i will pay into until the limit is reached (try and get as much in before april as poss so i can use some of this years limit) then when that's full BF is going to open one in his name. If we fill both of these (hopefully!) then i'll look into the best savings accounts to use.

    Targets are:

£5,000 for trip by July 2010

    plus

£13,000 for deposit. (my dad said he would give me £7,000 as he did the same for my sister which would take us to £20,000)

That's all for now, just realised how long this post is!

Hey S_D! Welcome to the club. You sound like just the sort of member we love to have around. You will find this just as useful to note down your targets as it is for words of encouragement.

I have just tucked away £500 yesterday in my YBS reg saver but with 3wks left of the month, I am hopeful it will get better yet. I booked a focus group next week that is paying £250 and will use some of that for D.I.Y but divert £100 into my Halifax reg saver. Fingers crossed that some freelance work comes my way this month :)

  • I am having to take my girlfriend out for a valentines meal and it is her birthday in the same week! So an expensive few days but I have more than doubled this months salary with overtime so I guess I cant complain too much!

    Really looking forward to payday.

(...think I said that last month too...)

    Hello Butterfly72.

You need to download / install Firefox then install property bee. Then just search Rightmove for the houses you want to track.

    http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/

    http://www.property-bee.com/toolbar/download/

Yes it is very safe, and Firefox is lovely to use too. Property bee is very addictive :D
