If only i lived closer to work i probably wouldn't bother with a car. MOT next month and insurance is up in May
I love not having a car, it saves me £££s every month. It's a pain sometimes but OH can usually be relied upon to give me lifts, and I much prefer cycling (when it's dry!!!). You'd be surprised how little it rains here, I get the bike out most days.

Oh no! How frustrating for you. Cars are so expensive. I sorted the tax and insurance for mine yesterday, which has left me with £185 in my "Car" account to cover the MOT and any repairs. This seems like not a lot, considering my car is 14 years old!
The MOT is booked for the 11th, so we'll have to see. If it came to £1k though, it wouldn't be worth me doing it. In fact, I think if it came to more than £300, I would think long and hard about whether to just cut my losses and do without. Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that though.0 -
Thanks guys.
Unfortunatly OH needs it for work. He works away through the week and needs it for that.
We'd also done the Tax this month too. Again budgeted for.
I think I'm going to have to rejig the finances so that we have a separate account for the car repairs etc. I'll just have to reduce the money in the deposit account but I guess it makes sense. So if it takes a bit longer to save then so be it.
Really I can't complain too much, we got the car as a gift from OH's mum and we've not had to spend anything on it really until now. And I guess we are lucky in that we can pay for it. Others faced with a bill like this wouldn't be so lucky and I know that.0 -
Ah well, guess I should join this thread!
Currently me and the GF are saving for a deposit and everything else in life.
The goal (for 2011) so far is to get £10,000 each (this year), but I believe I can save more!
Updates will be posted in my status
As for spreadsheets I currently have 6 tabs! One even includes predictions for the year and another for potential losses:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
Think its time I joined this thread now
Saving for a house deposit.
I'll be buying the house on my own. I want 3 bedrooms, and a nice decent area!
I'm aiming for a house between £90k and £120k - preferably the lower end!
Have £11k saved so far and now aiming for £1k a month savings
I am also saving £200 a month to cover annual expenses - insurance etc!
so that leaves me £650 odd for living expenses.
I was living in a rented flat - £300 a month, but giving it up and moving back in with the Parents at the end of May.
Internet, phone line, TV licence all now cancelled!
I am househunting at the minute - but will only buy if the right house comes up!Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0
