Thought I would post here. So far I have saved 12k as a deposit for mortgage. I have been saving almost 1000 pounds nearly every month. I was thinking about getting a house in Cardiff in couple of years time with 35k (20%) as deposit.

Recently I changed the job so commute to Caerphilly for work by train. Properties are so much cheaper(nearly half of the price) in Caerphilly compared to Cardiff so I am thinking about getting a house around 75k with 30-40% as deposit and then paying up the mortage in 4-5 years and then sell it and move to bigger house.

    Welcome to a fellow James!

Sounds like you have it all planned out mate! You would also hope that in 4 or 5 years property prices will have gone up a bit so u might get a small profit for your efforts.

£400 for 4 new tyres and £495 for car insurance means I certainly wont be having a good saving month :(

ISA interest could be a nice little boost though!

Between me and my girlfriend we should be getting about £400 in interest when it rolls over to the new financial year :) Its all in ISA's so no tax!

Whats the business? Let me guess....Mowing old ladies lawns? I did that one summer and it was very profitable :D

Only thing I can think of there is you're going to incur stamp duty on the second property, so you might want to think about how much you'd be paying there :-)

    Hello again!

Just added £500 to my savings - I always wait till all my main direct debits have gone out after payday. Have also upped my target from 30k to 40k as 30k will be reached far too soon lol and then i'll just want to look for somewhere to buy!

Savings might take a bit of a hit the next couple of months (hopefully not reducing just staying the same) as I'm off on holiday to vegas and LA in May :D
