Well hopefully we are going to be saving this deposit faster than planned. I had a job interview today and it went quite well, and if i get it that means another few hundred can go away each month :j!
However i feel like we are never getting close enough, wouldnt it be nice to win the lottery lol!
Better get back to work or wont have any money to save lol!Getting ready to buy our home - £20,000 saved0 -
Hi everyone,
I've only just joined this site, so forgive me being a year late on this thread!! I've tried reading through all the pages, but 52 is a bit much for me! I read through a few pages and then came to the last few pages; you lot are really inspirational, and it's brilliant to see people so close to their goalsgood luck to all of you.
Anyway, my own (sad!) story is that I've always wanted to have my own house, and I am completely obsessed with property! I got my first job a year ago, and obviously to begin with just enjoyed having some money
Me and my partner starting saving just before Christmas last year, and got together about £2000, with which we moved into our first (rented) house last month
Now I've already got itchy feet (probably because I move so much - I'm 19 and have already moved 10 times..), and am looking to buy somewhere by the time im 23 (fingers crossed!).
It's an absolute nightmare trying to save at the moment, I'm blaming it on it being the first few months in our first home. But, I've made some progress today and managed to save us about £70 a month through cancelling a couple of direct debits for the gym and creditexpert.
Once I get us back on our feet, which I'm hoping will be by the end of the year (after having paid off all our debts of around £2500 - only owed to the parents though, no bad debts for me!), I'm hoping to save around £300 a month. Whether the OH will save anything is another matter!
Then all I need is a miracle and I will be in my barn conversion in 3 years time!
I'm sorry this is such a long post - once I get going I can't stop!!
I hope to see you all reaching your saving goals and getting your dream homes soon!

We are aiming for £10k deposit, plus fees?? not sure how much they will be.
So far we have £5015 (was £6000 but we bought a car and had to pay insurance) so desperately trying to make up for it now. Our aim is Septembers payday saving atleast £1k a month!
thinking of doing a car boot this Sunday.....
Seen a gorgeous house, viewed it twice which probably wasnt a smart move seeing as we havent got the £10k yet and its 20k over budget but being an estate and up for sale for nearly a year im quite hopeful they will accept £100k for it. just hope no one beats me to it
Where is this house again?? Just a postcode? We have just enough...:D
No best of luck to you, I was just saying in another thread about having seen a house in a village near us, its up for 125k but hoping we can get them down a good bit. We currently save £1200 a month and we've had a bit of luck too and managed to make it up to £10,500, we targeted £15,000 which at the time was £12,500 deposit for the house and £2,500 for the fees. Your fees shouldn't be more than £2k for a house of that price depending on your broker?
What I really wanna know is...where did you get a car for 900 quid!!
Its a bit of a scary time actually, I'm not a nervous or a worrying person but you just don't want to get ripped off, make any glaring mistakes or have something wrong with your first house or mortgage. It's always darkest before the dawn.

We now have more than we have ever had but it wont be for much longer as we have found a house! So this may be my last post in this thread. Good luck to everybody. It is worth going without now to have more in the future, in my opinion - especially with something as important as a home!
Very good Rob0 -
Thanks for all posts!
I have been careful with my money all my life to be honest. I have worked since I was 18 and have saved hard since then. Some of the money belongs to my girlfriend too, so it isnt all technically mine... but seeing as we're moving in I've combined our money.
Ur like me, i started work at 18 after leaving college. Stayed at home and saved hard, i'v just turned 24...i have now saved £62,000.....worked hard, did plenty of overtime and saved really hard. Good luck with the house. I'm also viewing houses, but cant find the perfect 1 for me. Hopefully i will find 1 soon.0 -
