Another £96 came through from Mystery shopping today, which has gone into the savings, and I'm happy that we've now past 6%, not an important milestone but worth a little celebration.

However I think we've missed off counting £500, going to work it out at the weekend!

We've worked out we'll be able to put about £1811 into savings by the end of June as a result of the gift from OHs dad, some premium bonds OH found, and a little money my mum owes me. Plus we do the £20 a day challenge, so scarily our total could be doubled within the next month. Feeling very chirpy today now!

Very scary actually just realied we should be at 13-14% of our house deposit by the end of June - only 2 months after we started saving. At that rate we'd have our house deposit in 15 months, not the 2 years we are aiming for! Still, wouldn't complain about a larger deposit or the ability to buy a bit sooner if the right house came along.

Just got my salary so have done all the spreadsheets again. We're nearing the £40k mark (target is £50k for a 20% deposit+£15k for stamp duty, moving and emergency costs) so getting there slowly.

I'm holding some of my mother's money as well - she says it's for her to spend when she comes on holiday but I doubt she'll spend it all. So might have 2K coming in from there as well.

By my calculations, we should have enough saved between August 2010 and January 2011 depending upon house prices and whether or not we get any money from mum.

This fits in with our other plans too since hopefully we can apply for our permanent resident status around August next year as well (we're currently on work permits).

Of course the government is trying to pass a law that will delay our residentship by 2-3 years which means our house buying hopes and starting a family hopes will also be pushed back. :( Oh well, hope for the best.

We now have more than we have ever had but it wont be for much longer as we have found a house! So this may be my last post in this thread. Good luck to everybody. It is worth going without now to have more in the future, in my opinion - especially with something as important as a home!

Congrats Rob, good luck with the house purchase. You've built up a great pot and seeing that encourages me to keep adding to mine

I've got at least another 3 or 4 years of saving to go to reach my target for my deposit as I am on my own, my ideal house would be a 1 or 2 bedroom flat. BUT you never know what will happen in that time I MIGHT meet someone and settle down!! :D:D

Hi Palema, im in the same boat as you, its so difficult isnt it? i try not to think about how long it will take because when i start it just depresses the heck out of me lol.

    Evening Folks!

    Just updating you:

-Viewing house tomorrow, 2 bed terrace, very good area. Practically brand new kitchen! Needs only cosmetic detail accordin to agents details
    - For sale for £79,950 [Possible repossession we are assuming, from what we know from estate agents.]
    - Been to have a look through the windows and at the area today, and it's very promising so far.
    - Have got 10k. So easily, 10% deposit. [Altho hoping to get it for less]
    - Have been looking at Natwest FTB 5yr fixed rate, and done all my sums.

Unfortunately not had opportunity to sort out morgage offer yet, as this property only came on the market in last few days, and at its current price might well vanish quick!

Am trying not to get too excited but it's too late!

    Thanks for all posts!

I have been careful with my money all my life to be honest. I have worked since I was 18 and have saved hard since then. Some of the money belongs to my girlfriend too, so it isnt all technically mine... but seeing as we're moving in I've combined our money.
