It's been a while since I last posted in this topic but just wanted to give a quick update. I only have another £3000 to save before I have my deposit but I am so fed up of living at home with the parents (I will be 25 this year) I have decided to rent for a while and watch the market.
This obviously means that I won't be able to save my usual £500-600 a month and instead I will only be able to put away a max of £100 a month. I won't be touching any of my house deposit savings when I move out as I have some other money to pay for that but my only concern is the safety of my job... Things are looking quite rocky at the moment and perhaps it's the wrong time to move out.Saving for a deposit: £20,551 / £25,000 - 82% of the way there...0 -
Personally I would be careful about taking on any extra financial responsibilities at this time if your job is looking rocky, as you could end up having to use your deposit savings to pay the rent.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Hi Palema, im in the same boat as you, its so difficult isnt it? i try not to think about how long it will take because when i start it just depresses the heck out of me lol.
Hi focus888
It is very difficult. I have been in debt most of my adult life and I ended up in a Trust Deed because of it, the TD lasted for 3 years and finished in February just passed. Its funny because when I signed the TD I thought 3 years was an eternity, surprisingly it has flown in and I'm hoping that the 3 or 4 years of savings that lie ahead of me will fly in as quick as the time I had during the TD.
I hope you manage to reach your savings target

Thanks for all posts!
I have been careful with my money all my life to be honest. I have worked since I was 18 and have saved hard since then. Some of the money belongs to my girlfriend too, so it isnt all technically mine... but seeing as we're moving in I've combined our money.
Seriously mate that savings pot is fantastic, what an achievement.
Best of luck with your new house, I hope it goes OK.It's always darkest before the dawn.

Well I went through my savings accounts at the weekend and we were £588 better off than we thought, which is great news. Looking forward to a storming June cracking the 10% mark (and maybe the 15% if we're really lucky!).Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I use my small change, DH doesn't. it really annoys me he puts in in a jar and lets it build up. But then, last week he paid in £288 pounds woth of change, so I'm softening a little. I still think my way is most MSE method though.0

We save the small change too, that way it really amounts to something, whereas if you use it you tend to just spend whatever is there. If you don't have 50p in your wallet, you're unlikely to use the card to get a choccie bar or paper or anything so its money saved.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

We're totally different to most on here as we live in the North West, Lancs area so we're looking in the 125k-130k bracket which is realistically a nice terraced house in a decent area or a decent semi in a not so nice area!! Can't really win!!
We've both had enough of living with the rents though so we don't really have time to save for anymore than 10 plus fees.
I thought the saving would be the easy part though, now we're nearly there and starting to look I've really realised that finding the right house for both of you is easier said than done!! Why is there always something wrong with each house?!
We are in Blackpool, Lancashire, so no doubt not too dar from you!
We are aiming for £10k deposit, plus fees?? not sure how much they will be.
So far we have £5015 (was £6000 but we bought a car and had to pay insurance) so desperately trying to make up for it now. Our aim is Septembers payday saving atleast £1k a month!
thinking of doing a car boot this Sunday.....
Seen a gorgeous house, viewed it twice which probably wasnt a smart move seeing as we havent got the £10k yet and its 20k over budget but being an estate and up for sale for nearly a year im quite hopeful they will accept £100k for it. just hope no one beats me to it :rolleyes:DFW Total £21,800 to clear by Dec 2022
MFW Total £184,950 £179,066 to clear by 20350
