I don't know a great deal about the condition, so others will have a better idea of whether it is worth putting in an appeal or not.

Do you need help getting out and about, or is it more help with personal care, dressing etc (or both)?

Have they provided reasons for why you have not been awarded anything for mobility? If not, it is definitely worth requesting this.

The only negative aspect of going to appeal is that they could take away the care element as well. It is unlikely that they would, but they do have the authority to do so x

  • ]Hi There!hi after all this time i am having a medical the last one they cancelled after refusing my claim, after a letter from my doctor supporting me , my doctor was very supportive explainung i have suffered for years and i cannot walk far also my panic attacks etc also i have been having blackouts, i will let you know what happens also can anyone tell me what happens at the medical, and how long after do you have to wait to hear the decision any advice greatly appreicaited

I have FMS, but have it alongside alot of other ailments and only makes up part of my disabilities.

Do you have a rhumy who could write you a supporting letter stating how FMS effects you? When I applied for DLA I had supporting letters from my consultants stating illnesses and how im effected, my OT stating a stairlift and wet room had been fitted, social worker stating I was receiving care from then for x amount of hrs weekly, letter from my GP confirming illnesses, medication and care needs, copy of my blue badge etc etc.

If you have full support from your GP and consultants then appeal and get letters as above to confirm this.

Also if you get awarded any rate mobilty then you can get a blue badge which will allow you to park in disabled bays.

    That is incorrect.

At the medical the doctor will ask you questions about your condition, and may also ask you to describe a typical day. If you do get anxious, it would be worth making some notes to take with you, so you don't forget anything.

The doctor may also give you a physical examination, depending on your symptoms. You will be given the option to have a chaperone (either another member of staff of your own sex, or a friend if someone is with you anyway).

It can take anything from a few days to a few weeks to hear after the result.

Hope it all goes ok x

    debbie,
I've just read your thread, sorry to hear you are having such a hard time
I have an undiagnosed neuro condition and get dla (higher mobility, lower care)
The neuro thinks I have something like MS and something like ME/fibro I just don't have the right set of symptoms to get either diagnosis

One thing that occured to me reading your symptoms (panic attacks, feelings of dread, blackouts) is that you might have a blood pressure problem. Both my dad and me have chronic low blood pressure and we also suffer from sudden extreme drops in blood pressure. This causes a terrible feeling like you are going to die, really awful like everything is just sinking away from you.

The difficulty is that it often goes undiagnosed for years, since people's blood pressure often shoots up at the doctors, so if its normally low it appears normal whenever its checked

With orthostatic hypotension, you get a different blood pressure reading standing up compared to lying down, so if the person doing the reading is not aware of your condition, they just ask you to roll up your sleeve  . . .
