hi can anyone tell me how long it takes for a dla claim pack to come0

It can take anything up to 4 weeks depending on how busy they are. DWP in Liverpool are on strike at present, unsure if this is nationwide but the norm is a week in my experience but you have 6 weeks to return it.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0

It would be a really good idea to arrange an appointment with someone from the Citizen's Advice Bureau as thy know what things needed to be included in order to tick their (DLA) boxes.
I get high rate mobility because of not being able to walk due to severe pain, a lot of which is attributable to the Fibromyalgia.
As you can't get out much I wondered if you knew of a website called Daily Strength, there are forums on there for people with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain, to name just two! It might not be your kind of thing, but it's worth a try. My name on there is serenity94, you'll probably recognise the avatar!
hi thank you i will take a look at the site, inever knew there were websites for fms until the last couple of weeks thanks to everyone :T0 -

I have fibro and receive only lower rate care and had difficulty getting that. I only got it because my back pain is due to a disc injury. One or two people have suggested I should get more, but the first claim, which went through the CAB and was looked at again was so much hassle I dont have the energy.
I have since used the BHAS site's advice to fill in my renewal forms myself.0 -
Hi Peaches
I work for CAB and every CAB is different and like a bargain booze, We pay for the name and have audits every so often to ensure we are giving excellent advice so like carphone warehouse every CAB is not the same.
We are a charity based organisation run by a few paid workers and people giving precious time by local people, we call these volunteers.
Back to your DLA claim i would apologise for you getting low rate by advice through a CAB but low rate care is mainly for mental health illness regarding places unknown to the claimant or physically/mentally not being able to cook a meal.
Were you advised to appeal 'cause if you have ailments that meet the criteria for a higher rate you would certainly of been advised to appeal.
The CAB and centres alike aren't in the business of being magician but getting people the benefits they deserve and many of us advisers have advised people not to proceed where there claim doesn't meet the criteria.Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.0 -

hi i am just waiting to hear, they are waiting for my doctors report i will let you know when i hear0

Hi,
Please can someone help.
I am new to forums I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and the DLA doctor came to my home yesterday to assess me. As it was on one my bad days I was not examined he just asked me to walk across a room (approx 6ft X 7ft) and up one step of the stairs at my home. I was asked a series of questions and then he left. Does anyone know when the decision will be made and I will know about it. Also as read in other forums this claim is refused many times and if it should happen me how would I go about appealing to this decision.
Many Thanks
Carol0 -
Hi Carol,
Welcome to MSE.
Unless they are still waiting for information from your own GP or specialist, your award should be decided pretty quickly once the doctor reports back.
Maybe you could give them a call midweek to check that they have all the information that they require and whether they have heard back from the doctor yet?
I would not worry about your claim being turned down too much. It tends to be that people only post on forums when they have been turned down (because they need help with the appeal), whereas many others who have been made awards do not need to ask for further info.
However, if you do not get an award, you will be sent information on how to appeal, and we are always happy to answer any questions that you have xGone ... or have I?0
