"(That's fine if you can find a good exchange rate, but many high street bureaux de change are more expensive than using a Halifax card abroad. For comparison, here are the "fees" charged by some bureaux de change for the same €300 withdrawal:) ) " quote

My plan is to change £400 through Currency Express - 493.68 + (free delivery), looking at the maximiser it looks to be one of the best currently, also paying for it using my halifax debit shouldn't incur charges........

    Am I correct?

Yes, you are correct, Currency Express is cheaper than using your Halifax card abroad - but not by a huge amount. Another possibility, if you can get to a TravelEx branch, is to see if TravelEx will match the Thomas Exchange Global rate - some people on this site have reported that this is possible.
You have been extremely helpful Benjus - thank you again,

    Caz

    No problem!

Has there been some thread merging going on here? I am sure I was the first reply yesterday, but now I appear to be reply 443 and the poster I was answering is 442.

Sorry if someone has mentioned this before but I thought I'd mention this as I wish I'd done it the other week when I went on holiday with my girlfriend, so I'll definitely do it next time.

MOST Bureau De Change desks offer a higher rate when you give them £600.

I know that's a lot - but me and my girlfriend exchanged £250 each at 2 separate BDCs. If we'd stumped up an extra £50 each, we'd have made our Euros go much further.

OK, we may have had some left over, but we could have saved them for next time.

I'm kicking myself - don't feel the need to do the same.

If you're travelling with someone else - change your money together for the better rate!!

I believe M & S bureau de change lets you buy currency and travellers cheques with your M & S credit or chargecard without incurring charges. It means that you can pay for the currency you have used when you get back. They'll take it back too so you'll only pay for what you actually spent.
Orders over £500 free next day delivery too.

    T&C on website.

Help!!!! I'm off to Montenegro for a fortnight next week and am wondering what the best way of obtaining currency would be, given that we are flying to Dubrovnik and then transferring over the border. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Go to M&S - They try to be best rates on the High Street.

Montenegro use the Euro I believe. What problem do you have? Even though they have the Kuna in Dubrovnik will you need any money while you are there? If so just buy £10 worth of Kuna.

Thanks for that. I guess I was really just wondering if I would get a better rate of exchange by exchanging pounds for Euros when we get to Dubrovnik. Have applied for a prepaid card to load money onto before we go anyway as I gather I could get a better rate of exchange doing this.
