What's the bet the pound will tumble now that Mervyn King has verbally attacked the Chancellor's economic policy and saying that he is more uncertain than ever about an economic recovery. Great:mad:

Nationwide don't charge fees for withdrawing money abroad (£2.50 - £3.00) with other banks nor load the exchange rate in Europe (usually 2.75% elsewhere)

So, if you were to withdraw €100 on a normal card at an exchange rate of 1.1 it would cost you

    100 / (1.1 * (1-0.0275)) + 3 = £96.48

    with Nationwide

    100 / 1.1 = £90.91

    so a saving of £5.57!

I'm going away in 10 days and applied for my Nationwide account last week (no idea why I've never thought of it before - but those £5s must have added up over the years). I just hope it is opened in time. I'm going to keep my main bank account and only transfer my estimated spending money onto the Nationwide account. That way I am unfortunate enough to have the card stolen or cloned then it limits the amount I can lose and doesn't give the baddies access to my main account.

Thanks, yeah it makes sense to open up an account just for this perk! I already have a Nationwide account so i'm covered here!

Going to get a £100 in Euros from Tesco's tho while i do some shopping, be selling Cars next in the car park! :rotfl:
