my o/h company move from chester to yorkshire , so he drives back an to every day to work which cost us a small fortune in petrol not to mention he has to leave the house 4.30 am and can arrive home between 7pm /8pm
has anyone know if you can claim any help from the tax ,my o/h is 63 yrs old . i worry every day for my o/h saftey
But I'd be looking at the cost to drive back/forth and maybe staying in a local B&B 2-4 nights per week just for the rest if it proved cheaper than driving.0 -
We've chosen to live with a few minute's walk of both our workplaces. The upside of this is no sweaty trains, no travelling costs, no hassle. If we are waiting for papers at work, we can come home and nip back later for them. The huge amount of time spent can be used in much nicer ways, by spending time together and with our 2 year old son. I love popping home at lunchtime for my ectastic welcome "MUMMY!" and can work from home if I choose.
The downside is no outdoor space, and less indoor space than we'd get for the same money further away.
It's SOOOO worth it!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I take my husband to the airport (40+ miles), then he flies to Heathrow (400 miles), then onto Moscow (4 hours), then he flies another 9 hours east, then he takes a train and goes on a 15 hour journey. He does that every 4 weeks. Takes him 2-3 days getting there, and the same to get home. I'm definitely not moving to be near his work!
Sometimes he gets there by going to Amsterdam and Seoul instead.0 -
Only 10’ min walk as I only live less than a mile away from work.Si Deus pro nobis quis contra nos?0

my OH and I live 25 miles away from work in opposite directions. we chose this as we have a lovely home in the countryside and if we lived any nearer to one of our works - the other would have a longer commute.
also it means that if you have a stressful day at work by the time you get home (40-50 mins) you have left all your stresses behind
the other good thing about living 25 miles away is work dont often ring me last minute to do a shift!0 -
oh bout 6-7.... steps from my bedroom0

I'm 23 miles each way, but my mum stays round the corner and watches my kids. The money i save in nursery fees (the do go to nursery but my mum picks them up) vastly outweighs what i spend on petrol.
Although i do have to sit on the M8 every day:(0 -
I try to do no more than 10 miles each way per day. However, as an extra spesh favour, I have been known to do a 60 mile round trip to go to a friend's school to cover her classes:D"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

9.5 miles each way. Thankfully it is a country-ish route so I have very little traffic. The journey takes me 20 mins.0
